The Palestinian people are rising up after 75+ years of occupation and ethnic cleansing by the apartheid state of Israel. Now is not the time for “progressive” liberals and armchair “revolutionaries” to make demands for “peaceful resolution” from the comfort of the imperial core. Colonized peoples will ALWAYS have the right to resist and fight for their liberation, by any means necessary. ALL POWER TO THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS! NO POWER TO THE COLONIZERS!

Power Up 265-271 with We the Unhoused “I, for one, will join in with anyone — I don’t care what color you are — as long as you want to change this miserable condition that exists on this earth.” — Malcom X Solidarity is a commitment to working together on common ground despite having different lives, bodies and experiences. We have to remember that all of our struggles are connected and the only way we are going to overthrow our common enemy is by doing it together. We’ve been focused on building collective power in our communities, and we’re honored to be part of the formation of—and now members in—the Mutual Aid Union Los Angeles (MAULA)! Power Up continues to be so busy, we appreciate the homemade food from our friends at @compita ! Thank you Jane @urbanpet Eagle Rock for the years of pet food donations — best of luck on your new job! We joined a powerful march with our comrades at @ccedla and listened to powerful speeches from the tenants in Chinatown— raise income, not rent! The World Cup is coming to LA in June and we are preparing for an escalation of raids against the undocumented and the unhoused. If you’re able, please consider signing up for recurring donations via Venmo or Givebutter at JtownAction.com/donate or Link in our bio Also, If you have blankets, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, or large clothing, please drop them off on Saturdays from 2–5 pm at 1st and Judge Aiso St. Big love to @polospantryla @homeymademeals @communityhealthprojectla @the_sistershow @atomicnancy @hellocakegirl for the weekly solidarity.

RAISE INCOME, NOT RENT! “AFFORDABLE” HOUSING IS NOT AFFORDABLE! Last Saturday, April 4, Chinatown came together to demand a rent freeze! We marched from Chinatown to LA City Hall to demand the following: Stop all evictions! Freeze rent now! Cap the rent! Alto a todos los desalojos! ¡Congelen la renta ahora! ¡Limita a los aumentso de renta! 停止所有驅逐 ! 立即凍結租金 ! 限制租金上漲 ! Many Chinatown residents pay between 70-90% of our income for rent, and these absurd 8%+ rent increases we face are legal under current rent policy in LA and CA. Additionally, our unhoused comrades living in Chinatown continue to be harassed and mistreated, with sweeps constantly endangering them. Greedy developers, ICE, and CBP are threatening our communities. But together, we stand against gentrification and terror! CHINATOWN IS NOT FOR SALE! CHINATOWN UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED! Sign our petition at the link in our bio to take action today! Share this petition and post widely to the community! tinyurl.com/CTHousingPetition26 Many thanks to the housed and unhoused tenants of Metro Senior Loft, Yale Terrace, Bartlett, @hillsidevilla_ Cathay Manor, Blossom Plaza, @jtownaction @lastreetcare @stopthegondola @reclaiminghomes @echoparklatu @uniondela8 @latu_ktown @latenantslhts and @latenants ! #RentFreezeNow #EvictIceNotUs #RaiseIncomeNotRent #HousingIsAHumanRight #ChinatownIsNotForSale Alt text embedded & image descriptions in comments thread below

Over the past month, the U.S. and Israel have escalated their war on West Asia by attacking Iran without provocation. In hindsight, the U.S.-Israeli genocide of Gaza that erupted in 2023 in response to the world-shattering Al Aqsa Flood was never an isolated act, but merely the front line of a regional and now global war on all those who refuse to surrender their sovereignty to US-led imperialist control. While East Asia has remained relatively quiet thus far, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi’s recent visit to the White House sparked unprecedented outrage from the Japanese people. As the U.S.’s war on Iran and the resulting restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz threaten to embroil the whole world in war, how should we make sense of the US’s longtime and arguably most loyal ally and proxy in the region? This workshop will contextualize the often contradictory messages that those on the western left receive about Japan, showing how its postwar consolidation as a u.s. proxy state retained significant elements of its prewar fascism and ethnonationalism. We will discuss how and why Japan has variously been positioned as an enemy, rival and ally of the u.s. in order to understand what is likely to come as the u.s. inches closer to confrontation with its super-rival, the Peoples Republic of China. Register: workshops4gaza.com/workshops or in our link in bio! 🔗 Wendy Matsumura is the author of two books on Japanese colonialism, capitalist development, and anti-imperialist resistance in Okinawa. Her latest is Waiting for the Cool Moon: Anti-Imperialist Struggles in the Heart of Japan’s Empire (Duke UP, 2024). When purchased through Open Books at the link above, all proceeds will be donated to the Sameer Project.

Today is the 5 year anniversary of the eviction at Echo Park Lake. Mitch O’Farrell is gone, but the violent legacy of criminalization and displacement continues in Echo Park and beyond.

No one should be evicted for their immigration status. No one should be criminalized for their housing status. The struggles of undocumented and unhoused people are more interconnected than you know. An estimated 10% of LA’s unhoused population is undocumented, and ICE has already kidnapped people from encampments throughout the city. All 15 city councilmembers continue to regularly order raids of encampments in their districts. During these sweeps, people regularly report that city officials seize or trash their IDs and paperwork, leaving them without documentation. When city officials criminalize and displace poor people, they leave them at increased risk of kidnapping by federal agents. No one should be evicted. No one should be criminalized.

Power Up 260-264 “American GIs, why have you come to Vietnam? Your government has betrayed you. There is nothing noble about your mission. There is no reason why you should be here. You will never defeat the forces of our Fatherland.…Do you miss your families and homes? They are questioning why you are here. In America there is no unity, there is violence, there are protests against you. Why are you here? When you sit alone at night and think of your loved ones, our gallant soldiers are watching you. You cannot escape…You will be killed when you least expect it…Your imperialist government will never defeat us. Our soldiers are politically motivated and strong. You are weak. You have no cause. No one wants you here. Why do you stay? Tell your officers you want to go home, GI. Tell them you will not fight anymore. Tell them you are defeated…Do you miss your parents? Your wife? Your children? What will they do when your imperialist government tells them you died in Vietnam? There is nothing here for you except defeat and death. Your clock is ticking.” — Trihn Tri Ngo aka Hanoi Hannah US imperialism must end! Power up has been as busy as ever. We celebrated our five-year anniversary, talked about love, Reverend Jesse Jackson, heightened contradictions, and community. Thank you to all who came out to our workshop and bought merch at the farmers market! We hope you are all taking care of yourselves and please get to know your neighbors so you can keep each other safe and share resources! If you’re able, please consider signing up for recurring donations🙏🙏If you have blankets, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, or large clothing, please drop them off on Saturdays from 2–5 pm at 1st and Judge Aiso Street, or donate at JtownAction.com/donate.
