Welcome to J Timothy’s Taverne: home of the “dirt” style chicken wings 🍗 The Food Network named these wings, “top 5 bar food” in the whole country.
When I saw
@thestudiorevue rate this spot #1 in all of New England, I put it on the list.
“dirt style” is a term they coined meaning the wings get fried and sauced, then fried and sauced AGAIN. This leaves the wings slightly crispier and caramelized.
Sauce options weren’t anything crazy: Buffalo, honey gold BBQ, Teriyaki, Sweet Red Chili. We got two mini orders: one buffalo (classic) and one sweet red chili. You can only get one flavor per order, but they do offer various sizes so this didn’t bother me much.
Menu:
Mini (6 wings), $11.50
Single (10 wings), $17.45
Double, (20 wings), $32.75
Bucket, (35 - 40 wings), $57.85
I’m no chicken wing connoisseur, but, these were some damn good wings 🤤
Definitely crispy and fell right off the bone. Both sauce flavors were delicious. You don’t HAVE to get the wings “dirt style” and next time I’d be curious to do a side-by-side comparison to see if you can really tell a difference. All I can say is they were very good wings: good meat quality, saucing, and crispy, so it’s a win in my book 😋
We also ordered the chopped salad to go with our wings which was equally good. They have a great selection of local CT beers and overall a great menu. Supposedly, this place is slammed every weekend, and I can see why. It seems like they found a way to really meet everyone’s wants/needs. Also, its a beautiful old building dating back to the 1700s. Truly an interesting place. Go for the wings, stay for everything else!
