I am so proud of this performance. This year taught me SOOO MUCH, not just about MT, but also about myself. I wanted to incorporate everything that I learned into this piece:
Music theory: changing the arrangement in the beginning.
Acting: finding my own voice (which is ASL!) that is meaningful and truthful to me.
Dance: storytelling through body language.
All of it built around a song that I very much connected to this year which is… “One Song Glory” from Rent with the amazing @braedoncarlton . I cannot wait for sophomore year! 😁😁😁 YAYYY!
I performed Out There four years ago at my high school. Now, as a freshman at Pace University, it feels surreal to perform it again alongside these four talented artists. This is a reminder that storytelling in musical theater comes in all shapes and forms, it’s important to stay open-minded and not limit yourself to one way of telling a story.
Here’s a clip of the performance from ANOC! Congratulations to everyone involved! 💙🤟🏼
Bet Roger would light our candle if he saw this video 🕯️

VID: Josué Martinez, wearing a beige t-shirt, uses ASL to sign the lyrics to "One Song Glory" from the musical "Rent." Captions for both the spoken and signed lyrics appear on-screen above Josué's head, while black-and-white footage from the show, featuring Will Chase, plays in the back.

Last night at the Shuler Awards show was so much fun! I feel blessed to have performed my favorite song from Hadestown: Teen Edition on stage again with Richard. Congratulations to everyone involved in the show! We did it! 💙🤟🏼
i am so grateful to be part of this special production. this process has been both amazing and challenging. i want to thank the crew, cast, my teachers, and my interpreters for EVERYTHING. it’s incredible to see this show evolve and grow in so many ways.
going into this show, i had one goal: to inspire others in ways they never imagined. i am confident that we accomplished this goal. it wouldn’t have been possible without the cast, who brought this story to life with so much passion and love. together, we built something truly special.
from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making my last senior show so fun and special. 💙🤟🏼
