Great news for those who have already purchased your copy of “Shooting” and also great news for those who are interested in purchasing a copy. I have been able to reduce the cost of shipping from $24.75 to only $7.00. Everyone who has already ordered a book and paid $24.75 for shipping will be getting a refund check from me in the amount of $17.75, so that you too will only have paid $7.00 for shipping. Future customers in the USA will only pay $7.00 per book for shipping. So the total cost for a copy of “Shooting”, delivered to your home in the USA, is now $40.00 + $7.00 = $47.00. Books will not be mailed via “Priority Mail”, as they were originally, which is what drove the cost of shipping up. It will take approximately 6 to 8 days now to receive your copy once it is ordered. You can order “Shooting” by going to jsricephotography.com and looking under the heading “Books”.

When my mother gave me my first camera, I was about 5 or 6 years old. I asked her what would make a good picture. She replied “make a picture of something classic”. I asked her “what is classic”? She said, “that’s what you’ve got to figure out”. It was 1957 or 1958, so I went out the front door, down the steps, and within a few minutes a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air cruised past our house. I knew right then what I was going to make pictures of — those wonderful cars. And so they were my first subjects. All these years later, I am still pointing my cameras at some wonderful cars. I spotted twin Plymouth Barracudas as I walked around the Barrio Viejo in Tucson. Weeds were growing up under them, but just the sight of those two Barracudas took me back to my childhood and the days of my first photographs. #plymouthbarracuda #classiccar #tucsonarizona #leicasl3 #21mmsuperelmarasph

In this episode of The P.H.Y.S Podcast, I sit down with @jsrice00 , a Midwest American photographer whose journey behind the camera stretches back to the black and white film days of the late 1950s. For decades, James has dedicated his work to documenting the quiet, often overlooked moments of everyday life. His photography focuses on the ordinary scenes that most people pass by, yet within those moments he finds something deeper — a fleeting instant where the mundane transforms into something meaningful, sometimes even magical. Much of James’s urban photography has unfolded on the streets of Chicago, where he spent years observing the rhythm of the city and the lives of the people who move through it. His work has also taken him to Indianapolis, Asheville, New Orleans, and New York City, each place adding new layers to his visual storytelling. Beyond the city streets, James has spent many years documenting rural Indiana and other parts of rural America. His images reveal communities facing decline and change, yet they also capture a quiet dignity that exists within those spaces. His photographs hold both sadness and beauty, preserving stories that might otherwise disappear. In this conversation we explore his journey in photography since the late 1950s and the philosophy that guides his work. James shares why he believes photography is about noticing the moments others overlook and how documenting everyday life can reveal profound truths about the human condition. We also talk about the role photography can play when exploring trauma, resilience, and the complex stories that shape our lives. This is a deeply powerful and emotional conversation about photography, storytelling, and the healing that can come from seeing the world honestly. Listen now to The P.H.Y.S Podcast. You program your brain with your beliefs. If you believe opportunities are scarce, you won't see them. If you believe they are abundant, you will. By programming your attention, you literally create a filter for growth. Learn how to see with intention with Fotophase. Link in bio. Cognitive Flexibility: Sometimes the best way to see something new isn't to change the subject , but to change the position from where you see. Physically changing your viewpoint trains your brain to be more flexible in problem-solving. Move your body to move your mind, to move the way you see. When you move, you change the data your brain receives, breaking the loop of rigid thinking. Fotophase teaches you to use your physical presence to unlock mental flexibility.
