Trying to get better at doing less. With stripped-back tracks, it is easy to keep adding layers until it feels finished. But sometimes the better move is sitting in the same space for longer and finding the small details — a melody, a texture, a bit of ambience, a tiny change in the harmony. Those details can carry the emotion without making the track feel crowded. #musicproducer #musicproduction #studiolog #lofibeats #creativeprocess

When I’m preparing music for sync, the reduced mix can be just as important as the full version. The full version has the energy, but the reduced version gives the editor space for picture, voiceover, dialogue or whatever else needs to sit around it. Useful music is not always the biggest version. #syncmusic #productionmusic #musicproducer #trailermusic #studiolog

Making the music is only half the job. If your rights and registrations are messy, money leaks. Make sure you’re signed up to the right places, collecting the right royalties, and keeping the admin side in order. It’s not the glamorous bit, but it matters. #musicbusiness #royalties #publishing #musicproducer #studiolog

I like partnering live and digital drums rather than choosing one or the other. For this track, I’ve got a produced snare for the weight and consistency, and a live snare layered over the top for the ghost notes and feel. The sample gives me control. The live layer gives me feel. From a jüle track I’ve been working on Guitars: @egroegwalker Trumpets: @bn_hl_ jüle: @yesitsjule #musicproducer #drums #studiolife #collaboration #beatmaking

Something I think about a lot in music for media is that finding a niche usually isn’t about inventing something totally new. It’s more about combining two things that already work. Big riffs work. Marching-band drums work. Put them together and it feels familiar enough to be usable, but different enough to stand out. Guitars: @egroegwalker

Packaging up an album and exporting stems today. When you export stems, always take off your master dynamic processing, otherwise they won’t behave like the mix properly when they’re loaded back in together. #stems #musicproducer #mixing #productionmusic #logicpro

Working on a deep house track today. When the harmony and melody are pretty static, automation’s your friend. Little movements keep the track feeling like it’s actually developing. #deephouse #productionmusic #musicproducer #automation #logicpro

This track changed a lot once guitars came in. Easy to try and do everything yourself, but collaboration always takes it further. From a nu disco production music project I’ve been working on: 'Nothing Ever Happens'. Guitar: @egroegwalker

Built this trailer cue around an existing trailer as a bit of scoring practice. Starting ambiguous, then opening it up and building into the final section. #trailermusic #filmcomposer #productionmusic #composerlife #studiolog

Prepping vocals for mixing today. Comping, cleaning, timing doubles, tuning, then mixing — just the workflow I’ve found works well for me. #vocalproduction #mixprep #musicproducer #logicpro
