In honor of the show Boots, and to all my brothers and sisters who have served, in any country, under any flag, I want to share these photos from my recruitment days.
My parents may never acknowledge me, or see me as worthy in their eyes. But I stand here today proud, proud of who I am, and proud to stand beside all of you who have walked this path. People may try to make us feel small, but they can never take away our strength, our courage, or our will to carry on.
I am a gay man, and I am proud of who I’ve become.
To those who still find it hard to see your own worth, please know you are not alone. And to everyone who has supported me and shown kindness along the way, thank you. Your light helped me find my own.
