Hi friends and family! J-Sei’s exhibit on Ruth Okimoto “Circling Back: Retrospective of Art” is closing today (05/15). Come see this powerful and inspiring exhibit before it’s gone! Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00pm-5:00pm, or by appointment: 510-654-4000. *About the Exhibit* “Circling Back: Retrospective of Art”, an exhibit of paintings that brings to light Ruth’s journey to healing from the trauma of unjust incarceration and its meaning in today's resonant context of racist government policies of forced removal, family separation, and child detention. Through the colors of the American Flag and self images as a child, Okimoto asks viewers to consider the issue of loyalty and childhood innocence, especially in today’s day and age.

In a special episode to celebrate CAAM's 44th Annual CAAMFest, Oscar-winner director @filmsbyfarallon ' Steven Okazaki, and San Francisco's first Chinese American poet laureate @gennyeshe join Hibiku Kotoba as they talk about their short documentary film,“The Only Language She Knows”. Directed by Steven Okazaki and produced by @korufilms ' Amy Hill, “The Only Language She Knows” was filmed over 40 years ago in SF Chinatown and covers an intimate portrait of Genny Lim, her two daughters, and mother. Recently restored and remastered, this film will be shown for the first time at @caamedia 's CAAMFest in more than 40 years. In this episode, @kathographee interviews both Steven and Genny about why they made this film, what it meant to them, and the important reminder of how creativity should be explored freely with minimum constraints. You can watch this rare screening on *Saturday, May 9, 2026* at 1PM at the Koret Auditorium Main Library. Steven and Genny will have a post-screening Q&A. Listen to this episode before you go!
