🏆 Winner of the 2026 Starburst Award, "The Slab" project by the @coloradolottery and @puebloparks is ready for play! 🏀 Located at 2709 N. Elizabeth on the Elizabeth Street Parkway, The Colorado Lottery is recognizing The Slab as one of 18 projects across the state that demonstrate outstanding use of Lottery proceeds in Colorado communities, marking a record-breaking year for both applications and awards. 🥇 “We are honored to have this 2026 Starburst Award recognizing The Slab project,” said Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Steven Meier. “This project showcased investment from the Colorado Lottery to upgrade the facility and highlights four talented artists in our Pueblo community with the vibrant courts.” 🌟 Resurfaced and reopened in the summer of 2025, Pueblo Parks and Recreation is proud to give a refresher to a local favorite with the help of the Colorado Lottery. The Slab, originally opened in 1954, was recently completed with brand new concrete and most notably vibrant, beautiful artwork which was designed and painted by local artists. Artists include Tia Monson, Chloe Kelly, Jazelle Bustos, and Anthony Marinucci. 🎨 The Slab was recognized for the Starburst Award because the project restored a historic community basketball court with modern upgrades and public art, expanding access to safe urban recreation. The Slab upgrades included new post-tension concrete slab, new posts, backboards, hoops, benches and upgraded LED lighting. The $500,000 cost of the project was made possible by Colorado Lottery funds and their commitment to outdoor recreation in Pueblo. Just in time for the great weather, as well as the upcoming start of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, enjoy this grand opening presentation of "THE SLAB", featuring Director of the Colorado Lottery Tom Seaver, Assistant Director of Pueblo Parks and Recreation Mike Sexton, as well as Dennis Flores, Tia Monson, Chloe Kelly, Jazelle Bustos, Anthony Marinucci, Lori Marinucci, Cara Siegel, and Dan Gallegos.
