“Family Album” by Jennifer Roberts "This piece stood out to me because it was kind of hidden in a little corner in the exhibition, and paired with the warm lighting it looked really cozy, kind of reminded me of feeling safe and warm as if I was a kid again living back at my grandma's house in my childhood room. When looking at the piece you can see many old photographs taped up against all three walls, and on top of the pictures, there are paintings both in color and black and white of many different people. On right side of the three walls is a desk with a white cloth over it and on the right side of the table is a lamp and in the middle of the table lays a notebook that's opened with blank pages, next to it is a horoscope mug with two black pens and a chair kind of like it's positioned for someone to write there. The message I think that the artist is trying to communicate with the viewer is how much memory can mean to someone. What I think the artist is trying to show is how important family photographs and personal memories are in shaping who we are. The way the photos are displayed kind of remind me of how memories pop up in someone's head when rethinking of their past. --Megan Oyervide "Roberts installed a table and chair featuring a lamp, book, and pen underneath the photographs. The intention of the table and photographs coexisting together as one piece is speculated to be the theme of recollection. As I was viewing the photos, I noticed that each photo was unique and different from the others. These were individual photographs from different time periods, including different people, ranging from children to adults. While inspecting these photos, I’ve felt a sense of comfort and bliss. Looking through the photos, I’ve started to reminisce about my own childhood memories with family and friends. For example, learning how to ride a bike, and my grandfather, who passed. Robert’s objective for creating this piece was for her audience members to remember their past memories and experiences from childhood, as well as remembering those of family and friends who are no longer with us. -- Ayanna Braxton From Contemporary Art Class @jrobertsstudio @lucyrovetto

What an amazing night we had on Wednesday at The Interchurch Center.🎉 We stayed late so the incredible musicians could have a chance to walk through the gallery where they are all captured playing. A million thanks to Ozier Muhammad for bringing his incredible work to TIC. And another million thanks to everyone who came out on Wednesday. It's been a privilege and a joy to hang this show. If you haven't seen it yet, make a plan and I'll meet you there.❤️
