Iris Metallic on a 1980’s JPW.
The color is subtle but rich.
It will look great with alloy components, a black saddle and bar tape, or a honey colored saddle and traditional amber shellac on white cotton tape.
Which color combination would you choose?
The frame will be on its way to Switzerland soon.
Cover shot and that clown's face on the pump bump...
Yakima needed a splashy road bike to hang on their new Race Ready bike mount at the International Trade Show in 1987.
This was a great opportunity for my frames to get some prime time exposure so I jumped at the chance.
My painter had recently quit, so I had to do this one myself. It had been a very long while since I picked up the spray gun.
This job wasn't going well, I was struggling to get clean masked edges on the lugs and crown.
Using flat toothpicks to touch up all the imperfections was all I could do at this point as the deadline was approaching.
In my frustration, with the leftover paint on the toothpicks I started scribbling a clown's face to lighten my mood.
I had every intention to remove it before the clear coats went on, but at the last moment I decided to just leave it there.
Bicycle Guide had plans to do a head on shot of the frame which would have showcased my logo and Campagnolo's beautiful Cobalto Brake caliper.
When they saw the clown's face everything changed...

650b conversion on a mid 2000’s JPW 700c rando frame w/side pull brakes.
The plan is to do the add ons and then blend in the green paint to make it look like the conversion never happened. Wish me luck😁

Sunday in the shop…
Note to self, JP, you probably should sell a drill press or two, maybe?
Love them all and each one has it's charms and features❤️
But does a man really need that many?😁
Here's a guy that thinks one might?

Prowler (originally named Loon) is a 1964 Enoch Winslow bass boat that was used by many famous guides on Cuttyhunk back in the day. She is rugged, solid and stable on the water.

Reed’s New Ride
A 1990’s Crit Bike repaint nearing completion.
This frame was a $500 EBay score, frame only, no forks. It had a lousy powder coat finish and a bit of rust here and there.
My customer took a leap of faith chance buying it without seeing it first.
He was lucky, the frame had no crash damage and was straight as an arrow on the alignment table.
New forks were built using period correct parts to mimic what would have been on this frame when new.
The color is very similar to one of the Weigle’s his grandfather owns.

Two vintage Weigle’s in the sauna getting the spa treatment.
Force drying (baking) makes the paint more durable and speeds up the curing process. Typical temp is in the 140 F range.
Both of these frames saw a lot of use and abuse in their racing days.
Lots of work was done to get them ready for new paint, decals etc.
Their new owner’s are ready to build them up and get them back on the road.

Classics from days gone by.
A 1990 road crit. frame in the middle of rehab. The color was used a lot on my frames from that time period.
