Very thankful to @reverseshot_momi and @the_real_mr_transylvania for this beautiful review of our film. I first met Chris Shields while working together at the @ifccenter nearly 15 years ago. And so to have him be one of the first people to watch, and attempt to distill whatever this movie is into words, is quite special and feels very fitting. Excited to share it with everybody else I know. Hopefully you like it too.
Our first feature film IT GOES THAT QUICK will be having its world premiere on April, 25 at 4pm at @movingimagenyc First Look Fest!
We (Ashley and Joe) started making this film a decade ago. As the years progressed it transformed from a novel way to spend more time with family into a strange portrait of time and joy and loss and memory - and I guess ourselves.
Although we were the only crew members, it wouldn't have been possible without the participation of dozens of friends and family who donated their equipment, their time, and their thoughts.
Tickets are live on MoMI's website (and link in bio).
The festival's blurb describes it better than we ever could:
"Dir. Ashley Connor and Joe Stankus. 2026, 70 mins. U.S. The word “personal” doesn’t begin to describe the profound intimacy of this unconventional family portrait, constructed with delicacy and humor by married filmmakers Ashley Connor and Joe Stankus. Neither can that description reveal the artful and intelligent self-awareness of their approach: It Goes That Quick is neither confessional nor exposé but rather something singular and rich—a timeless mosaic of American life, filmed over the course of eight years within one extended Northeastern network of aunts and uncles, parents and grandparents, adults and newborns in which everyone plays a dramatic role that’s no less constructed for being real. By the end of this fleet, loving feature, you feel like a member of the family."
Thanks to the programming staff for including us, we are incredibly grateful.
Hope to see you there.
@miss_ashcon and I have been working on this feature documentary project in piecemeal for the last ten years. As we near the finish line, we’re happy to announce that IT GOES THAT QUICK has received the @nyscouncilonthearts artist grant. We’re very grateful to the NYSCA and our fiscal sponsor @uniondocs and happy to be recognized- a much needed boost as we go into the final stages of what has been a strange and challenging journey.
My short “Marquee” is being featured on @filmmakermag to help celebrate @ifccenter ‘s 20th Anniversary. @miss_ashcon and I shot this in 2013, a few months after we first met. Check out the link in my bio to watch the film and read a few of my thoughts on its creation and what it means to live with constant change.
Super excited to share that “Theo Anthony Makes A Stool” is now a #vimeostaffpick. Huge thanks to everyone at @vimeo for supporting my work and for drawing attention to films that, honestly, wouldn’t be seen otherwise. Excited for the inevitable onslaught of stool commissions for @theodorejacobanthony . Film link in bio!
My latest short doc, “Theo Anthony Makes A Stool” is now available to watch. Thanks to @theodorejacobanthony for allowing me to peek inside his wood shop and mind. Link in bio.
Remembering my Grandmother Joan Paul, who passed away on Monday night. She lived 91 years as well as anyone could and was my favorite actress. She will be greatly missed.
Bringing Theo Anthony and his stool home to Baltimore for @newnextfilmfest . Very excited to have “Theo Anthony Makes A Stool” in this festival and grateful to @ericallenhatchtaketwo for spearheading this much needed weekend of great films.
Thanks again to @iffboston for having me with “Theo Anthony Makes A Stool.” I played my first film festival here in 2014 and happy to be welcomed back to the Somerville Theater.
Excited to continue sharing “Theo Anthony Makes A Stool” at @iffboston . Thanks as always to @theodorejacobanthony who foolishly allowed me to make this. His mistake is my (and maybe your) gain!
