Trump boastingly announced today that the US attacked another Venezuelan boat on international waters, killing 3 people. Earlier this month the U.S. killed 11 Venezuelans in a similar attack. What is behind this current escalation? What is the history of the imperial aggression against Venezuela by the U.S.? Why should the anti-genocide movement care about Venezuela as well? We talked to author Joe Emersberger about all this and more. Video version on our Youtube channel and audio-only version on your favourite podcast platform. Joe Emersberger is co-author of “Extraordinary Threat: The US Empire, the Media, and Twenty Years of Coup Attempts in Venezuela.” https://www.amazon.ca/Extraordinary-Threat-Empire-Attempts-Venezuela/dp/1583679170 You can find his writing on Substack (), Fair.org , Counterpunch, Znet, and VenezuelaAnalysis.com Support the people in Gaza: - via The Sameer Project: /project/149178-sameer-project-x-mass-displacement-campaign - via Lifeline4Gaza:

New episode of civilizations podcast is about Ataturk and our last narrative chapter about the Treaty of Versailles (there's some analytical episodes covering the critiques of the treaty coming). Details of how Ataturk foiled the imperialists' final plans to partition Anatolia. Once he secured Turkey, he modernized it and it became a model that other Central Asian countries tried to emulate (with varying degrees of success). Here's why this secular leader is still revered in Turkey a century later. /2025/09/07/treatyof-versailles-11-ataturk-wins-again/

Our 10th episode on the Treaty of Versailles: On November 2, 1917, England’s foreign secretary sent a letter to an English Baron, declaring that the land of Palestine, which was in the process of being taken militarily from the Ottoman Empire by England, would be given to the Jewish people as their homeland. Known to history as the Balfour Declaration, the first draft was written by its recipient, Rothschild, and maneuvered by the Zionist movement’s secretary Chaim Weizmann. One Christian Palestinian warned in 1917 that “Politically, a Jewish State in Palestine, will mean a permanent danger to a lasting peace in the Near East.” How the British Empire and the Zionist movement, in the face of anti-Zionist dissent and objections on grounds of self-determination, set the region up for more than a century of war and the current genocide. /2025/08/16/civ-1919-treaty-of-versailles-10-england-gives-palestine-to-the-zionists/
