For this episode of Records for Friends, we’re slightly shifting the format. We’re joined by @jpbechamel , who will guide us through a series of remixes of well-known pop and R&B tracks—exploring the remix as something of a forgotten art form. You can catch him tonight at @apartment.acht , as part of the lecture and listening series he hosts JP has selected 10 records, which we’ll be sharing over the coming period, each one opening up a different perspective on how remixing can reshape and recontextualize familiar music. JP is a selector focused on music that stirs emotion. In the club, his sound draws on 80s-90s Chicago, Detroit and New York dance music, as well as its deeper lineage in disco and beyond, inviting people to get a little freaky with it. Based in Vienna, he is a regular presence in the local house scene as a core member of the collectives A Party Called JACK and Love-Fi, alongside appearances on various radio stations. Outside the booth, he hosts music panels and runs a talk and listening series offering space to listen, discover, and critically reflect on music.

JP is back with a new talk and listening session next Thursday (07.05). If soul is the spirit of house, then 80s cosmic disco is it’s pulse. Through visionary artists like Prince and Parliament-Funkadelic, as well as synth-driven disco experiments in Europe, these sounds fed directly into the DNA of early house and techno. Tonight’s focus traces one path in that evolution: the journey of Space & Italo disco to Chicago and its role in shaping a new sound on the dancefloor. 07.05.2026 | 20:00 | free donation | A8

Slide through some snippets of my 1st show on @refugeworldwide 🐣 It's been a minute but I've decided to restart making some more talkative shows where you can hear me awkwardly speak about the records I play (see slide 7), which is actually how it all started for me (for those who remember my dj schopenhauer soundcloud days back in 2020). I'm a lil rusty, but the process of learning about the music I love fills me with joy. Anecdotes, fun facts, nervous laughters, we love it all. Tracklist on last slide Bisou 👄 (SC link in bio)

Loose Ends • Emergency (Dial 999) • 1984 My living room has been a total shambles these past weeks, the floor littered with records, so I thought I might highlight one once again instead of tidying up my mess. Loose Ends, a brit soulfunk band made up of Carl McIntosh, Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol are one of the reasons I fell in love with 80s synth funk. Although pretty underrated (imo) they did have a string of hits in the 80s, most notably 'Hangin On A String', a sexy laidback tune heavily sampled in hip hop - go listen! The number on this single, 'Emergency (dial 999)', is no sitbackrelax chair track though and must have been a floor filler back in the day no doubt. Sirens wailing in and out over a snappy rhythm and bassline with little synthy delights sprinkled throughout, without forgetting Jane Eugene's lush vocals... waouwaouwaouwaou
