Pottery requires patience.
Preparing clay, throwing, trimming, carving & waiting until it’s bone dry.
Then about 12 hours plus cooling time for the bisque firing.
Next glazing & about 9-10 hours plus cooling time for the glaze firing.
I never know what I’ll get until I open the kiln.
There is often sanding & cleaning off kiln wash at the end.
Sometimes I glaze & fire again.
It can be tedious but when it goes right, it’s worth it.
Do you have the patience for clay?

I remembered to film the process of making these little leaf plates.
I was inspired by the texture of the leaves I got in my Mother’s Day bouquet. 🍃
Playing around with the shapes based on the shapes & sizes of the leaves.
Do you have a favourite?

Here’s a quick way to make square plates.
-Roll out clay
-Press into thick foam with a board to compact and counteract stretching from rolling.
-smooth with a rib
-cut out evenly around your form
-smooth edges
-place your leaf or whatever you want to imprint if desired.
-roll the texture in
-place the clay back on the foam and replace your block form.
-press down quickly to form the plate
-remove the leaf or texture.
-done! ☺️

Nobody wants to watch me make spike cups in real time so here’s a faster version.
Ready to bisque then glaze.
What colour do you think they’ll be?

This is a bit of a departure from my ceramics but I really enjoyed this life drawing session with Posers @gallery.1065 .
I haven’t done life drawing since I took one year of fine arts way back in the 90’s!
They provided all of the drawing supplies and I wouldn’t have usually picked the red paper but I love the way the pencil lines look different on it from different angles.
I think I caught the drawing bug again and will have to do it more often.
Do you think I should?
Thanks @meekymeekymeeky & @carly.lundy

I’m slowly getting my glaze materials more organized. I’m using plastic bins from the dollar store and keeping things together: frits, colourants etc.
Part way through, I thought I should write the quantities in dry erase marker on tape so I can easily update as I use.
It got messy as i added materials and my text went brown the boundary of my sticker.
I will redo on bigger paper and neater but it’s an improvement.
What do you think?

Looking for a truly private pottery class in Toronto?
If you’re in Toronto, even just for a day, why not try this unique private one or two person experience?
Even if you’ve never touched clay before, I provide the personal attention to help you make your own creation on the potter’s wheel.
If you’ve already tried your hand at throwing, I can help you improve your skills.😊
While one person is on the wheel, the other can make a pinch pot.
If you want to keep what you make, you can pick your glaze colour & return to pick up your glazed & fired pieces.
If you just want to focus on the experience and not keep anything, that’s fine too!
If you love your experience, you can also add classes to make more things with clay and come back to glaze them yourself!
Comment “Class” below and I’ll send you more info or go to the link in my bio to book a class today!

Time for a scale upgrade. The old scale wasn’t too off in this example but the more things I weigh, the more off it gets and it’s difficult to tare. The new one is easy to read and o can tare and convert to whatever units I want #scaleupgrade #weighingclay #outwiththeoldinwiththenew
