There is this trajectory you're on. I'm fascinated by it. You push deeper into yourself, using the materials that you do to find the truest expression of that. It's fun and it's real, and it's 1000% yours. All I can do is eat it up. Now, this foray into your Parisian oil era. It's already grabbed me and pulled and pulled and pulled. I can't imagine where you're going, but I'll be somewhere close. You're one of those you don't want to take your eye off. You're one of those you know will creates worlds that don't go away. Listening to the soundtrack of Hamnet (the great Max Richter) and tears can't help but surface. This plane I'm on takes me to see my son soon. I miss my two little girls back home and my daughter who lives with her diamond husband in NY. A moment in reflection of how fortunate I am. A partner who tells me about how she was up until 3:30 watching the Didion documentary crying. Children who are excited to tell me about their trip to the Mayan ruins (my son), their new album (my daughter), the Friday Flag Spring performance (our seven-year-old) or the concern for our dog who got a splinter in his foot (our five-year-old). All of it, stories all day and night. I dream my family. We care, all of us, and our alchemy is atomic.
I look at the insanity of our cultural differences and religious differences and color differences and who is deemed right and wrong and how that shifts based on perceived power and I get bored. Where is the nectar? Cultivated in the home. The consistency and honor of the power of example on the flower of our own home. So fuck you world that wants to separate me from surviving beautifully. You're a competitive bunch, rolling around in a toxic mud I want no part of.
I'll continue small and we'll work our way out from there.
