Elk jaar vragen we een hedendaags componist om een lied te componeren dat het verplichte werk is dat alle deelnemende duo’s van het Young Artist Platform uitvoeren. Dit jaar vroegen we Jorian van Nee, die zichzelf uitdrukkelijk pianist én componist noemt, om dat werk te schrijven. Enthousiast vertelt hij over het ontstaan van het werk en de urgentie die hij voelt om klimaatverandering ook in de muziek tot uitdrukking te laten komen: ‘Kunst is ook bedoeld om dingen aan de kaak te stellen die mensen mogen onthouden voor de toekomst.’ Jorian componeerde voor ons een nagelnieuw lied: 1000 Ways to Die in a Climate Disaster. 🎻 The Falling Seagull, performed by Sasha, is a contemporary work by Xavier Dubois Foley, an American composer and virtuoso double bassist, who fuses different styles such as jazz, classical, blues, and folk music. The piece was composed with the influence of the erhu, a Chinese string instrument, and inspired by Irish folk music. Sasha is particularly fascinated by the way he uses the double bass as a versatile solo instrument!
