A bit of a hot take, but I’ve found that being really technical and knowledgeable about photography doesn’t always carry over into the actual work. The creative side feels like it taps into a different part of the brain.
I came across @xiomarasj through a Substack post where she was writing about being biracial, her Mexican side and her Afro-American side. That led me to her Instagram, where I found out she models, almost as a side note.
So I reached out. We connected, chatted, and somewhere along the way we started taking photos.
When your creative pursuit is not your full time job because you have a day job, you’re never going to have that “chunk of time” you feel you need to create the work you want. Instead you have to work around the time you have because that’s more close to reality.
