The Austin SWAT Team Leader Course is filling up fast. This 5-day course is built to prepare current and future team leaders to lead effectively in high-risk operations while prioritizing sound decision-making, risk mitigation, and team safety.
Drawing from real-world lessons learned by Austin SWAT, the course covers leadership roles and responsibilities, operational planning, armored vehicle applications, react positions, team culture, training development, selection standards, commander/team leader relationships, and trauma pit crew concepts.

Kim started the @jorgepastorefoundation after her husband, Jorge, was fatally wounded during a SWAT operation. In the middle of unimaginable grief, she chose purpose. She made it her mission to keep Jorge’s name and legacy alive by helping law enforcement officers attend training across the country.
Jorge loved to train, and Kim understood the reality many departments face, limited funding, limited resources, and not enough opportunities for officers to sharpen the skills that may one day save their lives or someone else’s.
This week, she hosted @134tactical and gave officers the opportunity to train at no cost. That matters. This is the kind of training that saves lives, builds confidence, and prepares officers for the realities of the job.
Kim and I share a similar kind of grief, and I know firsthand how hard the healing journey can be. But watching her turn pain into purpose and use it to help others is truly inspiring.

Day 1 in the books training with @134tactical , and it was a solid reminder that officers simply do not get enough hands-on combatives training for what they face on the streets day in and day out. Too often, officers are expected to perform under extreme stress with very limited training in controlling violent encounters, managing physical confrontations, and protecting themselves and others when things go bad in seconds.
Combatives training matters. It builds confidence, decision-making, communication, and the ability to stay composed when adrenaline hits. It exposes weaknesses in training and forces you to problem solve under pressure. There is no substitute for getting uncomfortable, working through failure, and learning how to operate in chaotic situations with other motivated professionals.
One of the best parts of today was seeing so many different agencies represented, all coming together with the same mindset: getting better. No egos, no politics, just officers putting in work and investing in themselves and the people they serve. That is how we continue to grow the profession and close the training gap that so many departments struggle with.
A huge thank you to Kim and the @jorgepastorefoundation for making this training possible. What yall are doing truly matters. You are directly helping bridge the gap in law enforcement training and giving officers opportunities that many departments simply cannot provide on their own. It is an honor to represent you, Jorge’s legacy, and be part of something focused on making officers better prepared to go home safely to their families.
