I attended the African Tourism Renaissance Conference, and I must say that it was very enlightening. It was with an insightful panel and expert speakers like Mrs. Regina Amadi-Njoku, the VC for Sari, Ms. @gina_mens_ to name a few, with whom we discussed the Socio-economic state of affairs within the Tourism industry in Africa. There’s so much the continent, Ghana to be specific can derive from tourism.
Ghana is a country rich in culture which sparks global interest where tourism and investment can thrive. From Gastronomical/ Food Tourism (a classic example is Italy or France) to Customary rites say… naming ceremonies or funerals to Geographical indicators like pattens of Kente fabric, distinctive to Ghana(Ashanti).
Nevertheless, ✋😌 there’s the harsh reality of the vulnerabilities crippling this potentially buoyant sector. Financial problems has got to be the biggest factor. Then there is gentrification, bad roads or network to tourist destinations (I could go on all day with this🙄) visibility, improper maintenance of these sites, lack of indigenous tour guides (most are trainees and not natives with prerequisite knowledge) among several others.
The great news is that all these mentioned above can be a thing of the past if strategic policies are put into effect. Like cultural preservation and promotion, a more enhanced tourist experience, robust infrastructure to properly showcase traditional arts, innovative technology… you name it. Tourism, Cultural heritage and a vibrant creative arts sector are integral in boosting the African economy. You know what that’s called?? SOFT POWER😌 (yeah…I’m nerdy, so??🧐🤣) And the earlier we realize and make full use of that power the better it’ll be for our economy
I know no one asked for this (long, unsolicited 🤦🏾♀️) piece of information, but… walk with me…a little bit of knowledge and awareness never hurt anyone so🤷🏾♀️… y’all are welcome!! ☺️
*sighs* ok bye😊✌️ #tourism #africantourism #ghanaiantourism #justsayin
