My piece 'Firetruck' is home now after a month long showing at The Craig Gallery. Thank you so much to @thecraiggallery for having me. Thank you to my partner in life @aquakultre for setting me up at the music spot so I could get some uninterrupted hours in and for your constant support!
Firetruck is the first iteration of my wish to explore climate anxiety in mothering during late stage capitalism through the lens of domestic and intimate spaces.

"Receptacle" is a cyanotype photo I made this fall of a silicone breast pump. It's a hand pump that can be used for catching milk from the other breast while nursing, or for expressing/pumping milk.
It became a cherished object of mine, even when I used it less. I wanted it at the bedside, among the stack of diapers, wipes, creams and baby monitor chords. My emotional support pump. When I stopped nursing my son, I passed along all the nursing paraphernalia...but I couldn't part with my hand pump. So I put it in my studio (the living room).
I had the pleasure of experimenting with cyanotype this fall, and I brought my pump to use in the printmaking. When I rinsed the water off my work, and the image developed before my eyes, deep contrasts and luminescence emerged. I felt elated by how beautiful this mundane object was on the paper, with the light filtered through its silicone shell.
This photo represents reverence for lactation and the work of feeding a baby from infancy onward, no matter the method or type of milk. I hope you can enjoy it in your homes, children's rooms, wherever you think it's best to rest 😌

On the weekend, we got to celebrate @aquakultre receiving the Black Artist Recognition Award at the Creative Nova Scotia Awards. Taking the kids to the ceremony was a beautiful experience thanks to everyone on the @artsnovascotia team and on our home base team that made it possible and comfortable. ✨️❤️
Seeing Gigi holding the certificate afterwards, staring at your name just filled me with so much joy, as I know first hand the amount of creative energy, effort, love and time that you have poured into your music, art, youth work, and community, all while being the best dad. Proud of you doesn't even cover it ! Endlessly inspired by you @aquakultre ❤️❤️❤️

Taking a look around @doullbooks for Black/African Nova Scotian authors and history. As What Are You Sayin' plays in the background, I reflect on the great work we are continuing to do having intergenerational conversations with elders and peers about what sustainability and growth within our Black Communities really looks like! How can we get there? Black folks in Nova Scotia, we have been here and have a lot to be proud of. But we also have a lot of work towards wellness and sustainability.
