Hey bro I always knew you’d beat me to heaven, just didn’t think it would be like this. After I hugged you goodbye at the hospital I couldn’t stop thinking about this moment when you surprised me for my birthday earlier this year. Seems like a lifetime ago. I wanted to take a moment to honor you publically for the example you were. For being a genuinely incredible uncle to my children. For showing me how to see adventure in everything. For always honoring relationships. With kindness and conviction you led a life worth celebrating.
I know when I get to heaven you’ll tackle me just the same way and we’ll jump around without pain or sadness or any of the hurt. As much as I’d love to have whiskey and cigars and play Catan one more time… I know it will be infinitely better than that. Thank you for everything.
You would have been 70 today, dad. These are the very first pictures I took with the film camera I bought while you were in the hospital.
Mom said you had the money set aside for my birthday, so I wanted to get something that would honor you. I remember seeing amazing photos of me as a child and that was because you had a love for film photography.
I know Violet won't be able to know you personally, but she can see photos of herself and hear how you inspired me to take them. To understand that life is fleeting and momentary—yet should be reflected on and remembered well.
That's what I plan to do. I will share photos that I take with this camera... and maybe even some that you took many years ago. Would be nice for the world to see what a great photographer you were. Happy birthday old man, I know you are dancing up above!
Each morning morning I was amazed by the fog of the mountains. I kept forgetting my drone at the Airbnb... but on the way out on the last day, we pulled over on the side of the road and captured this.
One of our goals this year was to visit a national park. Check! Eventually we want to visit them all.
Reflecting on the small family we've begun. So thankful for these two. So thankful for the friends and close family that have been apart of our lives. We are so blessed and I'm incredibly thankful for God's grace.. where he's brought us from and where we'll go from here 🙏🏼🥰
A few people have asked about her middle name. Is Alabaster a family name? It's actually because we love the story of the alabaster jar. This jar held a very valuable perfume. The woman who owned it poured it at the feet of Jesus. Those watching scoffed at her waste, but Jesus knew this was a display of love poured out freely.
We pray she loves freely. That she blesses everyone she meets. That she doesn't care what people think or say of her, but understands what it means to be broken and vulnerable.
She's already teaching me and Lynelle how to be better humans. She made us parents and this is just the start.

This is a moment in history that is so heavy. But a light is being shined into a darkness that has been going on far too long.
As I write this post I look out to see a black man in front of the police station with his hands up yelling "don't shoot, don't shoot". My heart aches. I'm reminded of the verse on my wrist. "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land."

We have a God that hears our cries. God PLEASE restore our land. We need healing, justice, righteousness. We have been wrong.
