Listen to a radio story about the architects known as Jersey Devil. They made waves in architecture's design/build movement. In order of appearance: photos of the Hoagie House, Helmet House, Snail House and Hill House. They are followed by photos of the architects Steve Badanes, John Ringel and Jim Adamson. The Snail House prompted one local wag in Jersey's Pine Barrens to remark that the structure looked like the work of the Jersey Devil, a cryptid that roamed the area. Two of the homes built by the Jersey Devil architects were home to public radio hosts when they were growing up. A link to stream the story is at www.kalish.nyc

What I'm listening to: Great Soul, Joseph Lelyveld's biography of Mahatma Ghandi. It's narrated by Mark Bramhall, who has the ability to seamlessly shift into Indian, British and Afrikaner accents while he reads. Less than half-way through this nearly 17-hour audiobook, the story is still in South Africa where Ghandi spent 21 years.
