Eye in the Clouds / Oeil-Ciel no.4 aka 'Every Life Is A Light' was released to the world by @cstrecords on March 14th As per tradition, I was hit hard with 'them album release blues', so only posting about it now - on a much more fitting date, the 5th anniversary of DOOM Eternal's release Every Life Is A Light is a Photo-Album of Situational Tunes. Making music as if I'm editing a documentary, rather than writing fiction. On this day 10 years ago, my 18 year old self logs in to release online an album called 'soundtrack for a film that doesn't exist' with the project name 'johnny_ripper' - the rest is history. 6 years, 6 albums, 3 remix compilations & one collaborative EP of defining the sound/concepts of J_R before a personal crisis & life changes would lead to a name change in 2017, becoming Joni Void, thanks to a cherished friend I'm proud to present the first johnny_ripper physical release - Retrospective, a compilation tape of 19 songs / selection of early material from johnny_ripper, freshly remastered by @ummm_r at Macro; focusing particularly on original compositions / the 'soundtrack piano' material of the first albums, creating what is essentially the most 'personal' album to date in that sense. 5 years ago, on March 4th 2021, I volunteered my first shift at the RSA Cat Shelter @reseausecoursanimal after following their Twitter page for a while, and becoming a fanboy of the legendary Guimauve. Added to lockdown boredom and the fact that my own cat Muffin didn't want a feline roommate, I decided on a whim to volunteer on Tuesday mornings, a shift that persists to this day. Guimauve and his wife Isabella-Suzy are no longer with us, sadly, but Casper still lounges around on his shelf, even after all this time. I see The News™️ while I scroll my phone waiting for dishes to be dried, and posting my Cat pics in my stories - I witness Cat shelters in the rest of world, still persisting and helping our little ones; even while they're being attacked and bombed by our powers that be. I think - What is the difference between our shelter and theirs, the Cats from Montréal and those others Cats & Animals from Palestine, Lebanon, Cuba, Venezuela, Sudan, Congo etc... You tell me I'm glad to say that at this point, I've done more for Cats than I have for ungrateful artists. Tons of dry and wet food fed, gallons of water poured, and god, who knows how much litterboxes cleaned... As long as there are Cats to be taken care of, there is Work to be done 2000+ pictures and videos taken, always recurring in the Photo Gallery of my life - "That was such a wild week, and then I went to the Cat shelter... That was the worst time of my life, and I went to the Cat shelter..." Fahmid & Karen are my two friends who have visited the shelter (other than Kasha of course). @fahmidnibesh & I performed a duo set in September 2024, that led us to fittingly name ourselves 'Cat Shelter' (a band name I was surprised to find out hadn't been used a thousand times before already). We are performing two upcoming shows (with maybe a video slideshow of my Cat pics): Tomorrow, 3/29 at Quai Des Brumes with @mintaandthebrooktrout from Lisboa & @sarahellengreene from Toronto June 4th, 6/04 at La Zone (aka. our house in the middle of the street) with @liamgrant.a.p.g & @glenn_jones_guitar from U.S of Apocalypse Co-presented with @negative.capabilities See you at the shelter next Tuesday !
