Jongga’s story starts in 1987. Ahead of the Seoul Olympics, the Korean government wanted to put kimchi on the world map, and Jongga became the first brand to ever commercialise packaged kimchi globally. Kimchi masters, including one of Korea’s designated cultural treasures, came together to standardise the recipe
so it could travel.
It is a kimchi that I eat at home in London as well. Ryan and I just eat in a family size 😂

Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew)
Easy, warming, and full of depth, with only a few ingredients!
Ingredients
• 1 onion, sliced
• A bunch of spring onions, cut into lengths
• Bacon or pork belly
• 1–2 tbsp sesame oil
• 1 cup kimchi
• 400–500ml water
• 1 tbsp gochujang
• Soy sauce, to taste
• Ch chilli or chilli flakes (optional)
Method
1. Heat the sesame oil in a pot and fry the bacon until lightly crisp and fragrant.
2. Add the sliced onion and cook until soft and translucent.
3. Stir in the kimchi and cook for a few minutes to deepen the flavour.
4. Pour in the water to create a broth.
5. Add the gochujang, a splash of soy sauce, and chilli to taste.
6. Simmer gently until the stew is rich, savoury, and slightly reduced.
7. Finish with spring onions and serve piping hot in a traditional bowl.
Deeply comforting, boldly flavourful — the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out.
