🎶🎶 Meet the Composer: Juhi Bansal
We’re thrilled to feature “Four Reflections on the Night” by Juhi Bansal in our upcoming concert! This stunning work earned 2nd place in our most recent Composition Competition.
Originally from India and Hong Kong, Juhi’s music blends a wide range of influences—from Hindustani music and spectralism to progressive metal, musical theatre, and choral traditions. Her works span concert music, multimedia, and film, always rooted in powerful storytelling—especially stories of strong women, wilderness, and cultural diversity.
✨ “Four Reflections on the Night” for chorus, percussion, and harp, tells an ancient, universal story: humanity’s timeless awe when gazing at the night sky.

Do You? - by Jon Collazo
Inspired by the cities of Zobeide, Hypatia, and Valdrada from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities
“I didn’t cling to any specific quotes, but more the dynamic of the conversation between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan in this chapter. As I hadn’t encountered this book previously, I was struck by the way Khan challenged Polo’s perceptions of the cities he traveled through. Marco Polo is renowned for his work, and to see it picked apart through philosophical/psychological conversation resonated with me, inspiring me to write the music the way that I did.” - Jon

This marimba piece was a collaboration with the amazing Jon Collazo @joncollazo 🥁
He challenged me to bring Middle Eastern colors to the instrument — and I challenged him back, jumping all over the marimba with new scales.
He brought it to life so beautifully. Loved every part of creating this together.
