This mask has been months in the making. It is a vejigante mask, origin Puerto Rico. This is an original design created in collaboration with Joseph Ze Soza as part of my photography project, Masking the Male Form; A Celebration of the Queer Body. The choice of mask was decided upon given how Joseph felt about how his body is often demonized by his culture. Each aspect of the mask symbolizes meanings from its colors to the split nature of the form. Hopefully within the next several months an opportunity will pose itself for a photo shoot and the project will come to completion.
This mask was created as a custom project for client and is an example of this mask maker working somewhat outside his comfort zone and skill sets
