Here’s one of my favorite frames from the Biden 2020 campaign commercial that I had the pleasure of DP’ing.
This awesome location was a last minute find by our rockstar locations manager Jamil Gonzalez, after our original spot fell through day of. However this place turned out to be way more visually pleasing and dynamic. It allowed for more creative control and better blocking for the shot.
We did have to navigate challenges like blacking out multiple 15ft tall windows, replacing at least 100 mismatched bulbs and since it was a real barbershop we had plenty of reflections to fight in countless mirrors. I definitely think the result was worth it. :)

#flashbackfriday to a whole lot of firsts. This is a behind the scene shot of the first short film I ever shot (and directed) on film back in 2006. The film is aptly called “Tungsten” as I lit the entire thing with a single mechanic’s lamp. The story is centered around a girl wandering through a
world that is enveloped in perpetual darkness. The bulb is her only and last source of light.
I learned a lot on that project but I believe it was there that I truly fell in love with cinematography and decided that was the path for me.
