Had an incredible time dusting off the parkour cobwebs at @shinobi_mover amazing movement studio this week! Masa was kind enough to help me unlock a move I’ve wanted for so long!
Be sure to check the new YouTube video on the bio!

Was my birthday jam on Monday, wasn’t it! Funnily enough it was actually my birthday in February. Just wanted an excuse to bring my handstand friends together to play - was a nice day doing handstands around Tokyo!
If you’re new to my YouTube channel I’ve started uploading regularly...a little too regularly! Anyone who wants to subscribe is always welcome, if not I still hope you enjoy any videos I have coming out!
Love,
Jonathan

I’ve been missing the UK a lot recently.
We’ve now been in Tokyo for over four years, and although life here is settling more and more, I’m often reminded of the beauty of the UK. Seeing that @nickmulvey recently performed in Bristol brought back a lot of memories.
Although my hometown is in Oxfordshire, which I miss dearly. my wife and I actually lived in Bristol for seven years before God called us to Japan.
It’s completely normal to get homesick, to grieve, and to miss familiarity. I think that’s why the Nicks song I used for this video resonates with me so deeply. It’s about nostalgia, about the past. I remember listening to this song while training in Bristol, and it was actually the song in the background of the very first video on my old Instagram account. That alone shows how long this song has been part of my life.
As I reflect on all of this, I’m reminded that ultimately this world is not our home. Everything here is temporary, and as Scripture says, “our citizenship is in heaven.” Thank you Jesus, you are good, you are kind.

Imagine if I listened to all the people that said “ you have to do it this way”
I don’t like to get involved in debates in the handstand world because I find that seldom are they fruitful or lead to where people actually walk away with any satisfactory conclusions. But one hill I will die on is this: there are many ways to learn this skill.
I’ve been doing acrobatics in its various forms for over 20 years. I’ve seen people come and go. I’ve seen the greats that people worship fall dramatically, and humble stewards raised up like something out of a Bible story. I’ve seen it all.
And the one thing I can say throughout all these disciplines is that there are many ways to learn a skill.
Don’t fall for big universal truth claims that say it has to be done one way, through one systematic approach, or that every student’s technique should look completely uniform. That’s simply not the case. It’s all just ego, scared children masquerading as the next messiah. Don’t get me wrong, my statement itself is in fact an absolute truth claim, and I’ve walked the path wanting to be seen as the next Yoda - but I was a fake. Someone desperately needing attention and affirmation. I crucified that desire, the pride and the arrogance and laid it at the feet of Jesus.
Some people constantly try to force their students to be square pegs and expect them to fit through circular holes.
Whilst there are certain biomechanical standards for how a skill works, when it comes to technique, there are many approaches. There are many paths. And it’s up to you to discern which one works best for you.

Jonathan

I’m so thankful to have shared this moment with my good friend @dancaulfield .
I remember thinking how ridiculous everything about this setup was. The floor was covered in thick ice, the top of the phone box was domed—no flat surface at all. I’d dragged my icy feet up there, making it even more slippery, and my fingers were freezing. And anyone who knows me knows how much I hate being cold—especially cold hands.
But it’s funny… the image in my head became so strong that it overpowered the logic of how dangerous it actually was.
I find this happens a lot in both my hand balancing and my filmmaking. An idea comes into my mind, and I feel this pull to bring it to life exactly as I see it. This photo wasn’t planned, but the moment Dan and I saw the possibility, it became something I had to try.
Thank you, Dan, for capturing it.
Recently, I’ve been putting out more content here and on YouTube, with plenty more videos to come. I’ve had a lot of comments about the colour grading and overall improvement in look, so I’m planning to make a video on it soon.
@dehancer.film kindly gave me a month to try their product, and I’ll be sharing a full review in the next month or two. It’s been nothing short of game-changing for my colour grading.
Keep an eye on my YouTube to see how I’m now grading my videos!
