Part 2. Any favs? [1-5] Film Photo 1 & 7: brief walk on the beach at sunset. Did a nighttime walk here as well and wished I had a tripod to capture the stars. Sky was beautiful. Film photo 2: a portrait. Swam with some pigs and rays. Wish I had a waterproof film camera. Guess that’s another thing to add on the list. Film photo 3 & 6: I actually don’t remember taking this photo. Must have been a quick one while I was walking but something about it makes me love it. Has a serenity to it. Film photo 4: on the dock waiting to get picked up. Got devoured by little bugs. My legs are still destroyed. Film photo 5: buddy jumps while chugging his beer haha All shot on Kodak gold 200, portra 400, and Portra 800 on 120 film with my mamiya 7ii. Best travel medium format camera for me because it’s so light. Scanned and developed by @nicefilmclub

Any favs? [1-4]. Some photos from the Bahamas. Stayed in an area where the Fyre Festival was supposed to be. Had a chance to talk to some locals that were on the Netflix special about the ridiculous scenarios they had to navigate through. Slide 1&5: sunset on the property. Everyone in my group kept saying: ā€œwe’re doing it wrong. We should be working remotely from here. Why are we in [insert city]? Hahaā€ Slide 2: view from my bedroom one morning. Slide 3: ā€œpairsā€. We went cliff diving . I’m scared of heights so didn’t partake. I did it once in my life to check it off the list and said never again. First and only time was a 30ft cliff where you had to jump far enough to clear the bottom slope. Absolutely terrified. There was an old man there who was picking up trash from the other divers and also drinking a bottle of Jose Cuervo. After everyone jumped, he finished the bottle and then did a swan dive into the water. You can imagine the crowd. Slide 4: a blooming plant bathing in light at sunset. One of those quiet photos I love. All of these were shot on Kodak Portra 800 and Gold 200 with my Mamiya 7ii. Flying in and out with undeveloped film was easy here. They accepted hand check for it. I’m going to start printing again and hope to redo my personal website soon. Can’t believe we’re almost at the end of this month. Time flies.

Last day of the year so one last 2023 recap. Started this by looking for my favorite landscape photos but had to stretch it a bit to include a few other types of photos I enjoy. When I look at this collection of my work, I feel a sense of ā€œaloneness.ā€ Not loneliness, but the notion that the viewer is alone. Even among crowds, the movement for me isn’t in front of the camera, but behind it. I am passing through with the intention of borrowing the moment with this magic box I carry around. Slide 1, 6 - Northern Ireland. The landscapes here are beautiful and the Giants Causeway is one of the most famous sites with this type of column structure. The first was shot on medium format and the second on 35mm. The lines and general placement of shapes in the composition makes me proud of these shots. I hope to print slide 6 big one day. There’s these three birds flying in front of the large clouds and I just love how it really shows the scale. Slide 2,4 - these are both quiet photos that I took in Seoul. I can see them on my wall. I like the timing for both. Slide 3,9 - these were taken in Copenhagen. I know slide 3 is kind of a boring photo in a way, but the colors and textures just really caught my eye. I found myself staring at it in person so I took a photo. I’ll prob print this and see how it feels then. Slide 9 is of la banchina which was one of my favorite things we visited in Copenhagen. Amazing weather with people watching of individuals jumping and walking on a rope. Just screams summer to me. Slide 5,10 - these were shot in the greatest city in the world and where I am lucky to call home, New York. It’s a place that’s given me so much. I could honestly write a dissertation on it. Slide 7,8 - the top photos are from Tokyo and the bottom are from Seoul. The top of slide 7 will always be a special place for me because I proposed there. The bottom of slide 7 is sunrise in the hanok village in Seoul. My body felt like it exhaled as the city around me slowly woke up. The top of slide 8 is Tokyo at night. There’s a Godzilla in the distance haha. The bottom is a reflection of a palace in Seoul off an old arcade game screen. Excited for 2024.

Some street photography work from 2023. It’s a mix of 35mm and medium format film. Some of the photos I find beautiful, others heartbreaking. What stories do you see unfolding? Slides 1,2,4,6 - my intentions for these are a type of abstraction that makes the subject more anonymous. I’m still trying to find my unique voice in how I craft these images but I like them because I find them remarkably printable. And being printable is a metric that I personally use to evaluate my photography. When I hang work on my wall, sometimes street work feels odd if the subject’s face is very clear even if I’m the one who made the photo. The introvert in me gives those pieces the side eye. Slide 3 - these were taken during the Pride March in NYC. What do you think of the pair? There’s a few other variations I’m considering with different photos, but I’m still liking this one the best. Slide 5, 8 - will let the images speak. Slide 7 - I always see street photographers talking about how they think you should capture people or crowds when you shoot. Often times I hear that getting the back of someone’s head makes a bad street photo. I think rules are dumb. Both of images on this slide feel like paintings to me and they just speak to me in their own ways. Some words of encouragement: your art is how you see the world. Holding onto your unique view is the job. Hope you can love your own perspective. Slide 9 - the top image here was wild to me because there are actually babies inside those strollers. Apparently in Copenhagen it’s fine to leave your baby in the stroller outside the restaurant while you eat inside? Blew my mind. The image below of the two chairs feels very nostalgic to me. It’s an image I’d print large and put in a future kitchen room or something. Slide 10 - when NYC turned orange due to the smoke from up north. Can’t believe that was this year. Feels like a lifetime ago already. If you made it down this far, you’re my best bud. šŸ™

Journal entry below ā¤µļø Dear self, I haven’t been posting much lately. It’s something I hope to change in the new year because there’s quite a few creative things that have been asking to be let out. I did want to at least post a recap video because I want to archive better. It’s practice. It feels like every year that goes by, my desire for archiving increases. Maybe it’s because more days lived means more moments could be forgotten. And I’d like to hold onto them a little longer. Or at least build a vault for myself to open. Personal time capsules. There’s a lot flowing through my brain right now and it’s getting a little loud so I can’t seem to focus. I’ll come back to this though. To sign off, I do want to record this so I will never forget that: 2023 has been such a beautiful year. I am overflowing with gratitude for all the people I’ve grown closer to, places I’ve visited, and the life milestones I’ve been fortunate to reach. I hope 2024 is filled with creativity and purpose. I hope to remember to just tackle a day at a time. God bless, You
