Jon Matteson

When I was 19, I went to Stratford on Avon and studied with the RSC. We travelled to London and saw some life-altering theater. And now, here I am, about to open a show on The WEST END, with some phenomenal people, and performing one of my favorite roles in the world: Paul in The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals. ☄️🎭 I can’t stop smiling and I am so unbelievably grateful. I mean, two nights ago, I was sitting on the stage of The Apollo, completely mesmerized by the lanterns in the audience and the beautiful night sky painted on the ceiling. This theater is a work of art, and getting to play Paul on this stage is quite literally, my dream, and I don’t want to wake up. Beyond furious with ICE’s aggressive tactics, which have resulted in their murders of Renee Goode, Kieth Porter, and Alex Pretti, and with the treatment of those detained—which I’m sure is resulting in more death and misery. I have also been incredibly inspired by the response I have seen in Minneapolis, and the support from people everywhere who refuse to reject the evidence of their eyes and ears, and insist on being loud about the human rights abuses that our government is perpetrating. It’s been a weird week. I have been really looking forward to my friends @dmgeorge_primavera and @jon.matteson ’s project @realmdnd hitting kickstarter today. They’re incredibly talented, and I’m really grateful to have provided some designs for it. And I still hope people fund it—but after you’ve donated, if you can. We’re gonna get through this—it’s gonna get A LOT worse—but the pigs in their masks and their stupid little outfits are going to lose. And we’re gonna get through it together. Look out for your neighbors, check in with your friends, and tap into a mutual aid org. Don’t feel comfortable getting in the streets and protesting? Volunteer. Don’t have the time, but you have money? Donate. Call reps and senators on your drive to work. In a union? Talk to your union reps about organizing a general strike. Figure out what you’re comfortable and capable of doing, and get started doing it. Then hopefully, that comfort zone will expand, but if it doesn’t, fine. But no matter what, *do not stop.* FUCK ICE.
