For anyone in Colorado who isn’t already sick of me and my spooky book about Christian Nationalism, come see me speak at @mtnwordsco festival 5/24 in Crested Butte!
We are so excited to have presenter, Josiah Hesse! Hesse is an author and journalist from #Denver, #Colorado, whose work has appeared in Vice, Esquire, Politico, and The Guardian. Hesse casts a wide net in his journalistic curiosities, covering everything from science, crime and politics, to pop culture, the arts, sex and drugs. He is the author of two novels, as well as the non-fiction “Runner’s High: How A Movement of Cannabis-Fueled Athletes Is Changing The Science of Sports.” His work of memoir and journalism, “On Fire For God: Fear, Shame and Poverty In The Christian Right — A Personal History,” was hailed by Publishers Weekly as “an eye-opening account with evocative prose . . . Readers who’ve wrestled with their faith or finding home will find this inspiring.”
Join Josiah and GCC Pastor @iwrisley for a gripping conversation on his new book on Sunday May 24th at 1:30p in the Steaddy Theater. Pair this with the event with @maklelan and you'll have a full experience for attendees interested in perspectives on the bible and the culture surrounding it.
The event is free and open to the public!
Really excited to chat with my friend @amandajmccracken at @boulderbookstore on 5/20! Amanda just released an excellent book on the topic of #limerence (which I related to SO much more than I wish I had).
So much fun hiking w my good friend and mentor, @sgcarney Over the last decade, Scott has pushed me to demand more money and better terms from our industry, and to always walk away from bad offers. He’s also a brilliant (NYT best-selling) author himself, with a deliciously dark sense of humor.
The biggest questions about faith started here. Realizing there are thousands of religions and versions of the Bible. And questioning if you're in the 'right' one. The book tour interviews hit hard. Hometown rhetoric brought up painful memories and made the project tough. Some people just don't get it. Blaming the poor for economic downturns? That's like blaming witches for hurricanes. It feels right to some, but it's illogical. Wealthy leaders have the power to change things, yet wealth transfers to the top. I’m so honored to be heading to Denver on June 5 for the #ConversionTherapyDropout tour. Especially with the recent SCOTUS case on conversion therapy in Colorado, I am incredibly grateful to be able to come and share my story and experience.
I’m even more thrilled to be joined by the brilliant @jojodancer3000 . Josiah is an acclaimed author and journalist whose work has appeared in Vice, Esquire, Politico, and The Guardian. He casts a wide net in his journalistic curiosities, covering everything from science and politics to pop culture and the arts. His latest book, “On Fire For God,” is a powerful look at the poverty and mental illness his family endured while living within the bubble of the Christian right in rural Iowa. (Pro tip: he does the audiobook and it’s incredible!)
We’ll be at the legendary Tattered Cover. I’ll do a short reading, and Josiah and I will dive into a conversation about the book, our shared histories, and the importance of visibility in the fight against conversion therapy.
We’ll also have time for Q&A and a book signing.
