An FTP test gives a rider one number. A Critical Power test gives three. Performance is multi-dimensional. Sustainable power, the anaerobic reserve above it, and top-end neuromuscular capacity all behave differently, and all matter. FTP collapses that into a single estimate. The Critical Power test doesn’t. CP defines the sustainable ceiling. W’ quantifies the finite reserve above it. Peak Power measures top-end neuromuscular capacity. Three separate systems, three separate numbers. Vekta estimates CP, W’, and Peak Power from a rider’s ride history. The profile adapts as new best efforts are recorded across durations. Durability is the difference between performing and surviving. Not your power when you’re fresh. Your power after three hours of racing, after repeated surges above threshold, after the race has already torn the group apart. It’s one of the most talked about concepts in professional cycling right now, and for good reason. When fresh, your power-duration curve is predictable. After several hours of effort, that curve begins to shift downward. Durability is how well you resist that shift. Not all work affects durability equally. Sub-threshold efforts have a relatively small impact. But efforts above Critical Power, the surges, the attacks, the race-defining moments, those accelerate the decline. This is why two riders with identical power profiles can race completely differently in the final hour. Vekta measures durability by tracking peak power outputs layered by accumulated work in kJ/kg. From fresh through to 50 kJ/kg, you see exactly how performance shifts as fatigue builds. A power curve, sliced by fatigue level. Building durability takes more than long rides.
