This past weekend we celebrated the 60th trip around the Sun for our dear friend Brad Gerlach @waveki . Many know Brad as one of the most iconic surfers on the planet . He is definitely that. Over the 20+ years I’ve known Brad, some of my other favorite parts of him, he is an absolute comedian who does the best impressions, a very talented musician (if you know, you know), a deep sensitive soul, mentor to the younger generation, a loving father to his two boys Zepplin and Ziggy and enjoying the journey every minute and his true love for his partner Anna @kimbaspace who make an amazing duo. Happy Birthday Brad. I love you. Sigue Brillando Hermano!
Epic night of music with Tom Curren’s band, with Brad Gerlach as a guest guitar player. Tom, Chris, Brad and Aaron killed it. Most impressive was Tom singing, playing guitar, and keyboard on all the tracks he wrote himself and Brad learning the tracks in only 4 days to perform at Belly Up in Solana Beach for the Legends in Surfing and Science, fundraiser for the Moore Cancer Center in San Diego. Thank you boys. That’s was fun!

Heartbroken to have our friend Michael Cook leave us. I met Michael in 1994 and we became good friends over the years. I’m grateful to have created some amazing memories in Los Angeles, London and our wedding in Mallorca Spain with Michael through music, Djing, and friendship. Michael was a beautiful soul, had a funny British sense of humor and was always up to pranks, loved to skateboard, especially in California, stubborn at times, and is known as one of the most talented Djs and music producers and a pioneer of the Los Angeles Electronic Music Scene. As Micheal puts it, “he brought California to Acid House.”
A native of Manchester and later to London, then moving to Venice California, and back to London, Michael was one of the Djs who inspired me to start Djing in the 90s.
Michael was in his own paradigm and broke all the rules and always played eclectic. He would never bend his music to please the crowd, and contrary to this, he was a unique talent that could bend the crowd to his music. His Dj sets included many genres from the entire spectrum, including Funk, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Latin, Down tempo, Deep House, Nu Disco, Hip Hop, Electro, Punk Funk, Broken Beat, Rock and Indy. Even the esoteric names of his mixes left you guessing “Don’t Drink the Water, Diz Yer Mammy Ken, Destroy the Heart She Said.” You never knew what your were going to get with Michael, always a surprise. He told stories with his Dj sets and kept everyone dancing for many hours. If you know, you know. The last time heard him play was at our U.R. ART Festival in 2014 in Santa Monica. His set once again, was epic!
Thank you brother! I Love You and will see you on the other side someday. Rest in power my good friend!
This Sunday we are celebrating Michael Cook’s life at the Rose Room in Venice from 2pm - 7pm. It’s open for anyone that would like to join.
A recent trip to Puerto Rico with @matteowander and @roam.wanderer . Matteo surfed in the La Marginal Surfing Comp @wsl.qs and we surfed all around the island and a wave that is similar to a bigger version of V peak Leo Carillo. So much fun. 3rd trip there and I love it more each time we go. The waves, island, people, and vibe are really great! Viva Puerto Rico! Until next year…
Happy Birthday Matteo! 15! As you continue down your path and your journey, always keep your love and kindness in your heart. Dream Big! As our dear friend @iamtorquato says “Yes You Can”
I Love You More than the Sun!
