Almost the end of the Little Big Town summer tour and we get to do a headlining show at Red Rocks tonight. This has been such a fun tour with Wynonna Judd, Carly Pierce, Shelby Lynne and Carter Faith. I want to think the companies that make the basses, strings and gear that are the icing on the cake. Modern Vintage and Fender basses, DR strings, Source Audio with the C4, Neural DSP with the Quad Cortex and Moody Leather for holding it all up with style. The first photo is by Becky Fluke.
Playing live and kicking off the first People’s Choice Country Music Award show on NBC and Peacock. We play first at 7 central time. A small, but mighty pedal board since my stuff is in Boston for tomorrow’s show. Thanks to @ianmartinallison for the IMA ultimate Amp preset for my first time using the HX stomp live.
Brad was one of my first real-life bass heroes. He and the New Bohemians were so in tune with the moment, and I always tried to keep that in my playing. I loved seeing their wild and creative early shows in the mid to late '80s and how they evolved as they matured. His groove was fat, funky, super creative, and always tasteful. Brad's sound was always great, and he had a magical way of pulling the sound out of the instrument. His goofy laugh was infectious, his wisdom continuously poured out, and I didn't want to miss any of it. I always felt like I was around Yoda when I was around him. When I saw him, I always had to know what he thought about music or life.
Over the years, I got to share the stage with him when he played Bari Sax, and I played bass when we played with Suzanna Choffel. Those were intimidating moments, and I sometimes watched his face for approval or disapproval of what I was playing. It was super humbling. I just had so much respect for him.
RIP, Brad, you were a force of nature.
Playing in the round is so much fun. It’s like being in the middle of a party, which is usually dread-inducing for the introverted, but perfect for sharing music. It was a beautiful night playing music with my @littlebigtown family, the crowd was wild, and I was in awe of how one person could command a stadium like Ed Sheeran did the whole night. #fenderbass #modernvintagebasses #quadcortex #littlebigtown #edsheeran 📷@bfluke
Grant beat me to his first bass gig by 6 months. His was a school of rock show rocking some Alice In Chains and Jane’s Addiction as an 8th grader. Mine was the freshman picnic playing some Rush. I’m so proud of him! He rocked it and I was the one that was nervous.
