This International Museum Day, we're celebrating the power of museums to connect people with Ireland's rich and layered heritage.
From historic interiors and remarkable collections to stories of land, community and resilience and remembrance, each of the museums in our care offers a different perspective on Ireland's past - and its continuing story today.
At @fotahouseandgardens visitors can step inside one of Ireland's great historic houses and explore beautifully preserved rooms, collections and craftsmanship.
At @johnstowncastle , the Irish Agricultural Museum celebrates the ingenuity, labour and traditions that shaped rural Ireland.
At @strokestownpark , the National Famine Museum preserves and shares the human stories behind one of the most defining periods in Irish history.
Museums are places of discovery, reflection and connection - safeguarding heritage for generations to come.

This is a lady’s side saddle, made in London between 1910 and 1920.
Until the 1940s, it was considered proper for women to ride side saddle rather than astride. While elegant, it did make riding a lot more challenging, and certainly more precarious!
You can see this piece on display in the Irish Agricultural Museum at Johnstown Castle.
Have you ever seen a side saddle in person before?

What is now the Dairy exhibition at The Irish Agricultural Museum was once home to the stable boys of Johnstown Castle.
On historic estates, stable boys were entrusted with the daily care of horses, from feeding and grooming to cleaning stalls and exercising them.
