According to recent science (and mythic narratives of the Moon’s creation), a massive planet/object named Theia, named after the mythological Greek Titan who was the mother of Selene, goddess of the Moon, collided with the Earth, generating fragmentary material composed of both Earth and Theia These myriad fragments coalesced in time to became the Moon.
