Think about the thing you are most proud of creating.
A project you poured yourself into. A moment that made it all feel worth it. A piece of work that still means something when you look back at it.
Now think about the people in your life. The ones who were there before the career. The ones who will still be there after it. The ones whose existence in the world is proof that you were here.
Sam Walker spent 27 years helping shape some of the most iconic moments in Black entertainment history.
And when I asked him what his greatest creation was, he did not hesitate. There is no television program or movie that can top a child. Not the BET Awards. Not Soul Train. Not any of it.
This week's episode of The Reinvention Code is one of the most honest conversations I have had on this show, about fatherhood, legacy, and what staying grounded actually builds.

Have you ever tried to apply rules that worked for you to a world that has completely changed?
A parenting approach.
A leadership style.
A way of building a career.
Something that made sense in the season it came from.
But the season has shifted.
And the old playbook is no longer the right one.
The people who last, in any industry, in any role, in any chapter of life, are not the ones who held tightest to what worked before.
They are the ones who stayed curious enough to adapt.
Sam Walker said this on Episode 11 of The Reinvention Code, and it applies to every single one of us.

What is one thing you were taught that you have had to completely unlearn?

Have you ever looked up and realised you had worked so hard to get into a room, that you forgot who you were when you walked in?
You built the network. You got the access. You made the connections. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, you started shaping yourself around the room instead of bringing yourself into it.
Your network absolutely impacts your net worth.
That part is true. But there is a second half that most people never say out loud: Do not lose yourself in the pursuit of both. Because a network built on a version of you that is not real will not hold. And a net worth built on access rather than identity will not last.
Sam Walker said this on Episode 11 of The Reinvention Code, and it is one of the most honest things I have heard someone say about the cost of networking.

Has there ever been a moment where you caught yourself performing for a room instead of showing up in it? Drop it below.

Have you ever poured everything into something, and then watched it not grow the way you hoped?
Not because the work was not good.
Not because the effort was not there.
But because you were building for the harvest instead of building for the garden.
The people who last in any industry, any career, any calling, are not the ones who planted for themselves.
They are the ones who kept planting even when they could not see what was growing.
Even when the season felt long.
Even when nobody was watching.
Because they understood something that most people miss:
The garden was never just for you.
"If I keep planting seeds, there'll always be a garden to feed everyone."
