11th season with the Pistons. In the midst of the longest winning streak (7 games) since 2014-15. Last season finished with the worst record in the NBA (14-68). Currently (32-26) and just a game out of the 5-seed in the East. It’s the greatest turnaround in the Association. The boys are sizzling. What a ride.

In 2017 Alex Honnold free soloed El Capitan at Yosemite National Park. It is the most imposing granite monolith on earth. He climbed it without the use of a rope or safety equipment. Just a man and a mountain. In 2018 the documentary Free Solo was released which chronicled his climb. It is one of the great human achievements of our lifetime. That film changed the arc of my life. In 2019 I traveled to Yosemite to hike El Capitan and Half Dome (another monolith Alex successfully free soloed). Hiking is not in the same realm as rock climbing, but I’m not an experienced climber, so I hiked it. It was a 14-mile hike that took 9 hours, including a bear encounter, which turned out okay. When I reached the top I saw Alex at the summit about 200 yards away. At first I thought it was a mirage because it was inconceivable to me that he would be there at that same moment on that same day. By the time I made my way over to where he was, he had moved on. I didn’t get to meet him that day.
Fast forward to 2025. I just finished a hiking trip out west over All-Star break and drove to Las Vegas to catch a flight home. My friend happened to be presenting at a conference where Alex was the keynote speaker and invited me to attend before I flew out. So I did. What are the chances? I don’t often get worked up when meeting people whom I hold in high esteem, but this time was different. It felt like a dream. I was really at a loss for words. Incredibly special.
What a journey. From the 1st overall pick in the 2021 @nba draft to becoming a first-time @nba All-Star. Congratulations to a humble person and a great leader for the @detroitpistons .
