Jack Costella has left a legacy that will continue in history as one of the greatest land speed racers of all time. He once told me that he had more land speed records than any two people combined. His stories are that of dreams made into reality. Jack, thank you for showing me the value and what it means to build a community and family out of a group of misfits and obsessed salt flat racers. I have truly felt at home with you and everyone out there on the salt. I’m going to miss you. Thanks for the laughs. My thoughts and prayers are with you and those that knew you.

Bonneville Salt Flats 2016. This was in my dreams last night. I’m counting the days to August and feeling like next year will prove to me that this was not all just a dream.

Racer Tyler Malinky of Ohio looking out over the track prior to running his 1955 Triumph land speed bike Poison Ivey across the salt. Tyler along with his father Denny, brother Kyle and a crew of outstanding friends were always on point with the spirit of having fun. Some say the community spirit out on the salt has changed over the years, but there certainly was no sign of that arround these guys. Thanks for bringing Christie and I into the mix and sharing the memories! Bonneville Speed Week 2017 @tyler_malinky @lowbrowcustoms

Takanobu Watanabe starting his 1971 Datsun car #348 on the rookie starting line. The American dream comes in many forms. Taka and Bucho arrived in LA from Japan just in the nick of time to build a race car and tow it over 600 miles to the salt flats for speed week. I met them in the pits on day one. It was three days of engine adjustments before they were ready for the starting line. Once they got there, things were not always easy. I spend several days with them and learned what it means to be there every step of the way. Sometimes being the biggest fan allows you the opportunity to join the band. Doumo Arigatou team Forty Eight! It was great meeting you! Bonneville Speed Week 2017 #TumbleweedRacers

Miyagi was one of the first people I spoke with at Bonneville this year. I met him in 2016 while he was the driver for team Honda. He set a land speed record with the Japanese R&D team in car 450 the S Dream Streamliner. It was a HUGE surprise to hear him say he came back to Utah from Tokyo to meet up with Kiyo and Kat and race their custom built motorcycle called Gekko. This is him on the starting line waiting for the track official to point him down the salt. Bonnivelle Speed Week 2017 @kiyosgarage #kiyosgarage

This is in my dreams almost every day. When I wake up in the morning, I still get the feeling that I need to rush to the starting line because everyone is already there and racing is going to start. Team: Kiyo's Garage Racer: Hikaru Miyagi @kiyosgarage #kiyosgarage
