Late last week we had a new visitor stroll down the driveway like he pays property taxes. Earlier that same day, six deer were hanging out front, including a couple of fawns. Coincidence? I’m thinking this guy may have been… doing a little follow-up.
I always assumed that by the end of winter coyotes would be looking pretty lean after a rough season. Turns out, a big snowstorm can actually tilt things in their favor—especially with younger deer who can’t move as quickly in deep snow.
Which might explain why this particular gentleman looked less “survivor” and more “well catered.”
People are numb to Trump’s constant lies and chaos. The noise does not work anymore. So the distractions have to get louder, uglier, and more extreme.
This is not random. This is another shiny object meant to pull attention away from the one issue he cannot outrun: the Epstein files and his long, documented association with Epstein. When the pressure rises, the stunts escalate.
That is why this one went so low.
A video was posted on the president’s own social account showing Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. That image is one of the oldest racist insults in history. It is meant to dehumanize. It is meant to provoke. And it worked, because outrage was the goal.
Do not let anyone gaslight you by calling this fake outrage. The anger is real. The disgust is real. People reacted because they know exactly what that imagery means.
Even Tim Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate and someone who has often defended Trump, condemned it. When it is so bad that even Tim Scott cannot stay quiet, that tells you everything.
This fits a long pattern. Birther lies. Racist language about immigrants. Now federal enforcement tactics that rely on racial profiling, with ICE stopping people based on how they look. This is not policy debate. This is racial fear used as a weapon.
This administration does not just make bad decisions. It degrades the presidency. It humiliates the country. And when one distraction stops working, the next one has to be worse.
That is how desperate this has become.
Do not stare at the shiny object too long. As despicable as it is, it’s pure and simple rage bait. It’s made intentionally to take your eye off the Epstein ball. Don’t let it work.

Trump just said there have been no homicides in the last seven months in DC since he placed the Nat Guard. Sadly, there were dozens! AND, (Jesus Christ Almighty!) one of those killed was Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, one of those Natl Guard members who was ambushed, shot and killed barely two months ago in Farragut Square!!

Here she is, the adorable little girl in the middle, running through Volcano National Park in Hawaii with her mom Annie and big brother Adam, while Dad (me!) tried to keep up with the camera. Even back then she was full of joy, curiosity, and just a little sass… not much has changed! 😄
Born at our then home in Wellesley 44 years ago today — literally surrounded by family cheering her into the world — she’s been the center of our hearts from the start.
Fast-forward to today: she’s a brilliant school psychologist, a loving wife to Greg (practically born into our family too), and an incredible mom to three amazing boys, ages 10 to 14. She’s beautiful, smart, hilarious, and somehow still looks young enough that her students think she’s one of them!
We’re so proud of the wonderful woman she’s become, and so grateful that she hasn’t run off as fast as she did in this picture and still lives 10 minutes away!

In March 1944, the German submarine U-852 torpedoed the Greek merchant ship SS Peleus. After the ship sank, dozens of crew members ended up clinging to rafts and wreckage — survivors who should have been protected under the laws of war. 
Instead of leaving them be, U-852’s captain, Heinz-Wilhelm Eck, ordered his crew to destroy the debris field — and to open fire on the survivors in the water. For several hours the submarine circled, machine-gunning and even using grenades against defenseless sailors. Only three men ultimately survived. 
After the war ended, Eck and four of his officers were tried by a British military tribunal in Hamburg in October 1945. The charges: war crimes for deliberately killing helpless survivors of a sunken ship.
The court rejected the defenses of “operational necessity” and “just following orders.” In November 1945, Eck — along with two of his officers — was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad. Two other crew members received long prison sentences. 
This case remains historically significant. U-852 is widely regarded as the only U-boat in WWII whose crew was convicted and executed for the deliberate killing of shipwrecked survivors. 
The “Peleus Trial” stands as a stark reminder that — even in wartime — there are laws that protect the defenseless. The ordeal of those sailors, and the accountability imposed on Eck and his crew, helped set a precedent for maritime war-crime prosecutions.

You know that story about the frog in the pot? Throw a frog in boiling water and it leaps out. But if you heat the water slowly, the frog just chills until—voilà—frog soup. Well, congratulations America: we’re the frog, and the water’s already bubbling..
See, coups don’t have to be fast. The new model is a slow-cooker coup. No tanks in the street, just a steady parade of “crime emergencies,” new uniforms or or masked no uniforms everywhere, armed troops in the capital and big cities, press releases that sound like your uncle after two bourbons: “It’s for your safety.” And we all nod, because who doesn’t like safety?
When masked men with no badges shove people into unmarked vans to be potentially “vanished” to horrific prisons in Guatemala or Uganda with zero due process, it should feel like a national emergency! Instead, it’s just another day in the stealth insurrection. The targets are alleged illegal immigrants today, but not hard to imagine political opposition tomorrow. The infrastructure is in place.
Step one: slowly and methodically make the extraordinary look ordinary. Step two: call anyone who objects “soft on crime.” Step three: keep the uniforms in the streets until the intimidating sight of armed soldiers at polling places feels like part of the scenery. Oh., and don’t forget to intimidate the press and the media to make sure that all coverage of the “dear leader” will be positive.
And when (if?) the election comes, if the votes don’t go the right way—no problem. They don’t need to win votes if they already own the streets. That’s the trick: by the time the water boils, the frog isn’t jumping. He’s seasoning.
So yeah, I’m worried. You should be too. Because frogs don’t write the history books. The chefs do.
