There’s something special about a designer who understands both structure and softness, and builds a universe where the two coexist beautifully.
Sydney-based John Klif unveils his first collection, a poetic and powerful fusion of brutalist geometry and couture-level craftsmanship. Every piece is handmade, every fabric considered, every detail intentional.
For anyone watching the next wave of Australian talent, this feature is your sign to take note.

Another fantastic emerging fashion designer we have discovered recently is Sydney-based @johnklifofficial
John Klif approaches fashion as something to be built, not just designed. Drawing on the stark geometry of brutalist architecture, his work balances structure with softness. Sculptural silhouettes meet gentle drape, as seen in pieces like a sharp, boat-neck top paired with a fluid, Victorian-inspired skirt. It’s this interplay between strength and movement that defines the collection.
Every garment is handmade using couture techniques, with a focus on natural fibres and carefully sourced materials, including deadstock fabrics. Klif’s process is tactile and considered, guided by how each fabric feels and falls on the body.
Beyond the garments, he builds an entire world around his work — styling, casting and even creating accessories by hand. From D-ring jewellery to improvised veils, each detail is driven by curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Still at the beginning of his journey, Klif is already shaping a distinct identity — one grounded in craftsmanship, creativity and a quiet confidence in his own vision.
