Do you want to learn how to create and preserve stories? Curious about how oral histories can document Brown University history? Interested in gaining hands-on experience with oral history? This three-workshop practicum, led by librarians and archivists, introduces participants to the planning, ethics, and practice of oral history work. Drawing on examples from academic institutions and community memory-keeping projects across the country, participants will learn how oral histories are responsibly collected, preserved, and shared. No prior experience is necessary; all are welcome to participate in this collaborative learning space.

Brown University’s John Hay Library acquires former U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo’s papers
Harjo’s writing drafts, correspondence, scripts and teaching materials will significantly enhance the University’s scholarly resources from Native and Indigenous writers and performers.
