I want to thank everyone in Newington for re-electing me alongside my ward colleagues Leigh and Natasha last week. I have been incredibly proud to be a Newington councillor for the last four years and we will continue working hard to deliver for people in the community we are privileged to represent. Sadly, we lost some amazing Labour councillors in Southwark after what was a tough election but I know our former colleagues and candidates have important roles to play in the future of our local party and improving the lives of people across our borough.

Over the last 4 years as Newington councillors we have prioritised increasing opportunities and provision for young people in the ward so they have the best start in life. We have reopened Pelier Park, Fredericks Playground and secured significant investment to revamp the Brandon Library and Youth Club so the space can be used for more activities - work which is underway. Now @southwarklabour are making a Youth Guarantee so any young person leaving school will either get a job or be in education or training so they can secure one when they're ready. #votelabour🌹

Ready for a big campaign performance over the next 6 weeks. We've got a strong track record of delivery to defend and lots to be excited about going forward. This is our @southwarklabour manifesto for a borough where everyone can succeed. southwarklabour.com/plan

Positive morning out on the Brandon Estate #SE17. We were speaking to people about the local elections on 7th May and the work currently underway to renovate the Brandon Library and Youth Club. One of the first meetings I arranged after being elected in 2022 was on the future of the youth club. As ward councilors we have pushed for and secured significant funding to improve the space for young people in Newington so it can be used for more activities which they have told us they want through the consultation. We have made increasing opportunities for young people a priority over the last few years - something we will continue to do if re-elected in May. #votelabour🌹

Nice to be out with cabinet colleagues speaking to people on the Newington Estate #SE17. We also bumped into officers from the Newington Safer Neighbourhood Team who were doing patrols in the area. Keeping our neighbourhoods safe is a top priority which is why it's one of our five @southwarklabour promises to create a borough where everyone can succeed. /2026/02/labour-promises-to-create-a-borough-where-everyone-can-succeed/

💼 Fair pay. Real opportunity. A brighter future. Over the last four years, we’ve increased the number of people earning the Living Wage - supporting working families and giving young people a stronger start. And our Youth Guarantee is a huge commitment to back young people across the borough 🙌 Opportunity. Security. Fairness. 🌟 #southwarklabour #YouthGuarantee #LivingWage

Independent pubs and breweries play such an important role in our local economy and community. I know they are not easy to establish and grow from being involved with @ganyambrew for a couple of years when first setting up. I'm pleased the @uklabour government are providing business rates relief to support pubs over the next few years. The new year is typically a quiet time following the festive season so I stopped in for a quick drink at a few places in and around Newington - the ward I am proud to represent. 📍Red Lion - Walworth Road 📍@orbitbeers - Fielding Street 📍The Charlie Chaplin - Langdale Close 📍The Beehive - Carter Street (currently closed but recently maintained as an Asset of Community Value)

Out speaking to people on the Doddington Estate #SE17 where we have allocated £200k of Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding towards renovating the residents hall under Kean House and replacing the railings across all buildings. This investment is only possible because of @southwarklabour planning policies which have generated levies from developers that go back into enhancing and improving the local community.
