Johanna Zanon is the new resident of BoSA - Briefing on Soft Arts project. At CIMO, Johanna will continue her research on the sound of fashion, with a special focus on sounding the fashion archive. To do so, Johanna will build on her latest exhibition as an independent curator, The Sighing Sound of Lips Unsatisfied (2025) at Telemark Kunstsenter in Norway. The exhibition explored the sound of fashion through the works of nine artists, fashion practitioners, and artistic researchers – most of which were new productions. They engaged with the rich and complex sounds of wearing, making, and selling garments, questioning which hearing and listening practices are at play in contemporary fashion.
During her stay at CIMO, Johanna will reflect on the exhibition format as a method to think through fashion theory. How can fashion exhibitions contribute to theoretical inquiry and how to harness their analytical potential? Johanna will also confront the impossibility to reconcile the systematic approach that theory requires with the open-endedness that characterizes the curation of new works. She will ponder whether messing with theory can nevertheless prove to be a fruitful attitude towards both theory and curatorial practice. In total, she will assess the opportunities and limits of attuning research epistemologies as they relate to disciplinarity with curatorial strategies.

Transforming Kiosken into a research lab, curator & writer Johanna Zanon explores experimental curatorial strategies and non-conventional art writing. She’ll investigate where research meets curation, using fictional genres to write about art.
Based in Oslo with a PhD in history, Johanna has curated interdisciplinary projects including “The Sighing Sound of Lips Unsatisfied” and “Critical Fashion Walk.” She’s also programme curator at Norske Kunsthåndverkere.
Johanna looks forward to meeting artists, curators, mediators, writers, critics, and other art practitioners during her time at Kiosken.

I wrote a book in a book! I’m still surprised that nobody tried to stop me 😀
What happened, you ask, when I got carte blanche to write about textile art as a curator?
I’m glad you asked: I took the «Choose Your Own Adventure» format as a blueprint to write a series of fictional curatorial endeavours marked by obstacles, friendships, and (many) textile works.
Many thanks to my curators in crime: Andreas Hoffmann @arcticculturelab , Anne Szefer Karlsen @anneszeferkarlsen , Heather Jones @heatherirenejones , Lea Vene @leavene , and Martina Petrelli @limoncellosquad . I’m forever grateful for the time we shared in Bergen, Łodż, Warsaw, and since then.
If you want to nerd out, you can now «Curate Your Own Textile Art Exhibition». It’s part of the publication “Entangled - Texts on Textiles”, which derived from The Community of Writers.
