Joey Lem is a Chinese-American voice actor based right here in New Jersey! Drawn to creativity and authenticity, Joey found voice acting to be the perfect marriage between the two and now works full-time as a voice actor. Joey has acted in various indie animations, video games, live-action English dubbed series, and more. Most notably, he performed as ‘Nero’ in the mobile game ‘Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat’, additional voices in the Disney+ K-Drama “The Murky Stream”, and ███████ (oops, can’t talk about that right now!). The fourth and final set of headshots!!!
The theme of this set was ‘chaos’. I just wanted to share the part of myself that likes to have fun and maybe cringe a bit along the way.
In another perspective, it’s also the part of me that loves to get creative - to figure out how to use the mess in front of me to create something interesting, to find the humor in dark places, and to develop a sense of wonder for even the most mundane topics.

The third set of headshots!!!
This set focuses on ‘my most authentic self’. Essentially, it’s the part of myself I feel I and others see in me. It’s the part of myself I find nowadays snapping into whenever I enter a conversation.
This is the ‘me’ that actively listens. The me that asks thoughtful follow-up questions because I’m genuinely interested in what you have to say.
At the heart of it, I think the core emotion is ‘compassion’ expressed through empathy; understanding that I cannot fully comprehend another person’s beliefs and thought processes, and emptying myself of biases so that I can meet each person where they’re at.
I don’t claim to be perfect at it; I still say the wrong thing at times, and other times I forget to say the right thing. Sadly, I remember conversations with people that left either of us carrying more pain than what we came in with.
But for some of those conversations, I’ve experienced so much grace and mercy from the opposite party. People who didn’t belittle me because of the immature things I said, but forgave me because of the inherent value within me as a human being. I was heard out, not because what I was saying was true or wise, but because out of love, they wanted to understand me better and form a connection with me.
And I thank God every day that such a love wasn’t lost on me.
So, to the best of my ability, I present to you:

The second set of headshots!!!
This set focuses on the theme of ‘hurt’. What’s funny is that I didn’t land on that theme immediately, I just knew I wanted a set of photos that had that ‘serious, cool guy’ vibe. But ‘cool’ is subjective, and ‘serious’ isn’t actually a specific emotion a person can convey.
So after watching a couple hours of YouTube videos on how to pose, I realized that when actors get their headshots done, they generally try to portray characters that they tend to book such as the ‘misunderstood, broken teen’.
I decided to put that idea into action, so I narrowed down my acting choices and went with ‘guy who’s been hurt by a close and trusted friend’.
And dang, acting like you’ve just been backstabbed is hard y’all, especially when your photos are being done by the kind people at Dreamlite Photography. But luckily, we were able to get some shots that I felt really captured the emotion I was trying to convey.
More importantly, this isn’t me just trying to ‘look serious’ - this is me trying to be authentic before others, showing a piece of myself I’d rather not have others see.
So, to the best of my ability, I present to you:
