We had the privilege of joining the @mountainstoseatrail Gathering of Friends last month! We saw how deeply interconnected trail stewardship, conservation, and community care really are. You might know the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail for their trail work days, but they do far more than just trail maintenance! Their work spans advocacy, conservation planning, accessibility, fundraising, education, mapmaking, trail land acquisition, and volunteer coordination across the state. What stood out most was the dedication of the volunteers. Volunteers contributed over 41,000 hours in 2025 alone, not only rebuilding trails but also supporting surrounding communities affected by storms. Again and again, we heard stories about how caring for the trail also created friendship, purpose, and belonging. Through stories shared by volunteers and recovery teams, we learned how widespread and collaborative the response to Hurricane Helene has been. Organizations like NC State Parks, Carolina Mountain Club, Wild South, MountainTrue, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and many others are working together on everything from trail restoration to habitat protection and invasive species management. Even after such devastation, speakers described Hurricane Helene as an event that strengthened partnerships and communication across organizations. The conference highlighted how environmental stewardship is never the work of one group alone; it depends on collaboration between nonprofits, government agencies, businesses, volunteers, and local communities. More than anything, we left with a stronger understanding that caring for the land is also a way of caring for people, and that meaningful action, no matter how small, creates lasting impact for both the environment and the communities connected to it. If you'd like to learn more about the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and volunteer with them, visit /. And if you'd like to support them through our coffee, pick up a bag of Mountains-to-Sea blend! For every pound sold, we're donating a portion of the profits directly to their organization!

Joe Van Gogh has made the difficult decision to close our UNC cafe. We are incredibly proud of this location and grateful for the opportunity to be part of the campus community. It has meant a lot to us to serve students and be part of that environment over the past three years. Our final day of business will be May 29th. We truly appreciate everything the UNC team has contributed to Joe Van Gogh and are here to support everyone through this transition.

Our Honey Gochujang Latte is back for AAPI Heritage Month! This time, we're naming it after the Year of the Fire Horse! This latte uses our house syrup made with local honey and gochujang, a Korean fermented red chili paste, mixed with our espresso and your choice of milk! It's sweet, slightly floral, and ends with a tiny kick from the gochujang! We're excited to bring this favorite back for May! Find it at Broad Street, CH Timberlyne, SouthCourt, and Woodcroft!

Our Mountains-to-Sea Blend is back to fuel all of your spring and summer outdoor hiking while also helping to make trekking across NC possible! For each pound of this coffee sold, we're donating a portion of the profits to @mountainstoseatrail ! They do incredible work every year, and we had the privilege of joining their annual Gathering of Friends to hear more details about those projects! We're excited to share what we've learned and highlight the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail in the upcoming weeks. This coffee takes you on a journey, very much like the geographical highs and lows of crossing our state! Starting east at the sea, we glide through estuaries and waterways of milk chocolate, grounding our voyage. Moving across the Piedmont, we hike through the hills and plains of warm and nostalgic butterscotch, home to the majority of North Carolinians. And finally, we end our adventure in the bright, invigorating, and sweet strawberry heights of the mountains. An ode to our favorite state trail. Caffeinate and appreciate the beauty of our diverse state! Order online using the link in our bio or find this coffee at any of our cafe locations!

NEW Barista Special: Counting Kitties Latte created by Jenseon, our Woodcroft Assistant Store Manager! It's a fig latte made with Dalmatia Fig jam! The flavor profile is fruity and light at the start, develops into richer tones, and then ends on a high, sweet, light finish with a satisfying crunch from the fig seeds. The name is inspired by Jenseon's love of all things cats (you might've heard them greet you with "meowdy") and the whimsy they hope you feel as you take a sip of this drink! We highly recommend this drink iced! Although it's still good hot, you'll get the most dynamic flavor when it's iced! Available through the end of June!
