Most design challenges aren’t immediately visual problems.
They’re space-planning problems.
When layouts aren’t resolved early, everything else becomes harder. Furniture choices feel compromised. Lighting becomes reactive. Storage gets squeezed in rather than designed properly.
Good planning is invisible when it’s done well, but its absence is felt every day.
This is where experience quietly earns its keep.
I work very closely with both the architect and the client at this stage. Creating a large, practical space that also takes advantage of a drop-dead view inevitably presents a few challenges. Where does the seating sit. Which area deserves the best outlook. How cooking, dining and relaxing coexist without competing with one another.
We also consider how the space is used throughout the day, alongside temperature, noise and comfort. In this split-level entertainment space, the success comes from the division of zones. Evening seating is anchored around the fireplace and TV, while the raised bar and pool table area naturally reduces sound transfer, helped further by soft carpeting and an acoustic ceiling.
Every acoustic finish across the ceiling, floor, windows and walls is carefully applied, and largely invisible unless you know where to look. The result is a space that feels effortless to use, because the planning has already done the heavy lifting.
Visiting Cyprus and learning about traditional lacemaking to incorporate into project designs. Lefkaritika or Lefkara Lace is a handmade lace from Pano Lefkara and Kato Lefkara Cyprus.
Notable characteristics are the hemstitch, satin stitch fillings, needlepoint edgings, white, brown, ecru colours and geometric intricate patterns.
In 2009, this traditional craft of lace-making was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Working with suppliers in Cyprus and the UK to create handmade, relevant and beautiful products for my clients.
