Over two weeks I and my fellow mentors have been having eight young photographers from Italy, USA and France as students of the IOC OIS Sports Photography Training Program during the @paralympics .
With great reward we have seen all of them progress immensely and I’m sure we will see them photographing Olympic and major international events over the years. You can see their body of work at
Thanks to @luciamontanarella at the IOC for making this project possible, @bobmartinphotography for leading our work, Roddie McVake of OBS for the organizational support and my fellow mentors @sammie.thompson16 , @jedjacobsohn , @kawigglesworth , @waaardle and @benjamingilbert.photography .
Also thanks for the support from MiCo26 and IPC for this program, special shoutout to @ivogonzalez and @alessandrotrovati .

In the midst of this Winter Olympics craziness (very long and intense days) I today received news that my picture of Swedish swimmer @sarahsjostrom won first prize in the category Sports Life and Recreational Sports in Picture of the Year International. It’s a single image from my ongoing project about her pregnancy and way back to full training and competition, with an eye on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which would mark her sixth straight appearance at the games since her debut in 2008. I’m very happy that the judges decided to award this picture, as it’s one of my personal favorites from 2025.

The plan was to photograph the biggest moment of these 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games - Lindsey Vonn’s chase for medal in her possibly last Olympic race - in a scene setting way. And what better backdrop than the remarkable Dolomites? But what unfolded was not planned.
What stopped Lindsey Vonn wasn’t in the end her injury. Instead she got caught in a gate, lost balance and crashed badly, resulting in a broken left leg.
It was, in mere words, the end.

A late post from my coverage of the IIHF World Junior Championships in Saint Paul, Minnesota earlier this year. Sweden came out on top as the winners of the tournament. Last time Sweden won, in Calgary in 2012 - which now seems ages ago - I was also there photographing the joy of the players.
Next: The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Stay tuned.
Congratulations to Bildbyrån’s @joelmarklund who has been named Sports Journalist of the Year 2025 by the Swedish Sports Journalists’ Association. It is a historic designation, as it is the first time a photographer has received the award, which has been awarded annually since 1987.
The motivation reads: “Self-taught and innovative leading sports photographer who, both nationally and internationally, enhances the greatest moments of sports through distinctive imagery and different angles.”
