So proud of our son Charlie for all his efforts at Wash U. He graduated with the highest award in the Chemistry dept, was an Astronaut scholarship winner and will be attending Columbia’s Chemistry dept for his PhD. this Fall. Congrats Charlie! Wash U put on an excellent set of ceremonies with a number of terrific and inspiring speakers including Andy Cohen as the commencement speaker! Wonderful few days celebrating and meeting fellow parents and his friends. Beautiful weather in St Louis topped it all off. Congrats to the class of 2026!

New painting of the @kurtkauper exhibition from this past winter @ortuzargallery . Been a big fan for many many years. Loved the Watching Men series and then of course loved watching men, watching men. It was very challenging painting these especially on this small scale. Such a joy to spend so much with these, (in person) and in the studio. Much respect.

Detail of new painting from the Jennifer Packer exhibition Dead Letter @sikkemamalloyjenkins this show was about love, loss and mourning. This young couple were so deeply engaged, their caring and tenderness towards each other echoed the works. Hard to tell if they were high school or college age, but I always love seeing young people at exhibitions. This is a portrait of them in front of a portrait of Nate and Chey. To better describe the exhibition, following is a short quote from a review from @brooklynrail by Tony Bluestone “Jennifer Packer’s exhibition Dead Letter unfolds as both a collection of works and an act of communication across loss. Packer’s partner, the poet April Freely, passed away four years ago, and the current show, created in the wake of this loss, gathers paintings that move between presence and disappearance, between figuration and abstraction. Packer’s figures arrive and dissolve within deeply saturated fields of color. These expansive hues serve as both environments for meditation and objects of contemplation. In and of themselves, these spaces hold the viewer within an intense depth of feeling.”

#TBT some earlier paintings (2014-15) of artists contemplating in their studio. @lauriesimmons , Carroll Dunham, @leonardodrewstudio and @petahcoyne . When contemplating, it seems like artists are doing little but in fact are working the hardest. Deep looking, reading, seeing. Trying to understand. While in the studio works can still be changed, once they are out in the world, they are for the rest of us to contemplate. I am so grateful and appreciative to all the artists that have allowed me into their studios over the years. It is a true privilege and honor.

New painting from the Anselm Keifer exhibition @stlartmuseum so grateful to have experienced it. The last big Kiefer exhibition in the US was in NYC in the late 80s. I remember how impactful that was at the time. Seeing the St Louis Museum exhibition brought back a lot of memories including this earlier Kiefer, complete with charred books. In the early fall I had been questioning my work, as it felt a bit trite in these times. Keifer’s work and this exhibition in particular allowed me a way back in. #anselmkiefer #anselmkieferexhibition

Over the past year I have been very grateful to have my exhibition Contemplating Vermeer travel and receive such a welcome response. First exhibited at the Sarasota Art Museum from Nov 2024 - April 2025 and then travel to the New Britain Museum of American Art, opening in June and closing January 11, 2026. The series currently consists of 26 paintings, and depicts people contemplating 31 of the 37 known Vermeer’s. (6 to go!) thank you for all those that have attended the exhibitions, for those that have acquired and lent work and for the generous support of the institutions @sarasotaartmuseum @nbmaa56 and @cristintierneygallery Entering 2026 with much gratitude to so many.

Artist Joe Fig (@joefig2000 ) creatively captured a scene of Anselm Kiefer: Becoming the Sea in this lovely painting.   The Mississippi River runs deep in Kiefer’s imagination, and in the work Lumpeguin, Cigwe, Animiki, Anselm Kiefer transforms the Mississippi into myth. Above a bridge, three spirit beings from Anishinaabe and Wabanaki traditions watch over the waters, embodying protection, memory, and power.   Only a month remains to catch Anselm Kiefer: Becoming the Sea free on view! The exhibition closes on January 25, 2026.
