Running the Great North Run for Mental Health Awareness
I’m running the Great North Run for myself and in honor of everyone who has struggled with mental health issues, both past and present. We’ve all lost too many family members and friends to mental health challenges, especially young men. Recently, I attended the funeral of a school friend, Andrew Wilkinson, known as "DBA" in the BMX community. Losing Andrew has been devastating, and I’m running this race for him, to honor his memory and raise awareness about mental health.
Staying active and fit is a fantastic way to help maintain mental well-being, and taking on the Great North Run for the first time is my way of promoting this. This will be my first-ever half marathon, and I want to push myself, seeking discomfort to show that we can overcome hard and challenging things. I’ve chosen to run for Mind, a charity that does incredible work in supporting those battling mental health issues. They’re leading the fight in a relentless and often heartbreaking struggle, and I want to thank everyone involved in helping them make a difference. I’m determined to hit my fundraising target and hope to inspire others to support this vital cause.
Mental health issues are on the rise in today’s world. Statistics show that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK, with young men being particularly vulnerable. Stigma, societal pressures, and the reluctance to seek help often make these challenges even harder to address. This is why charities like Mind are so crucial—they offer support, education, and advocacy, ensuring no one has to face these battles alone.
By running the Great North Run, I aim to raise awareness and encourage conversations around mental health. Exercise has been shown to have a powerful positive effect on mental well-being, and I hope my efforts inspire others to find their own ways to stay active and prioritize their mental health.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. Together, we can make a difference, Talk, stay active and LOVE,.

44 hours of exercise in January. Thats an average of about an hour and a half a day.
January was quite a record breaking month for me, lets see if I can top it in Feb.
Onwards.
